Whale Watchers Witness Orca Family's 'Cat and Mouse' Sea Lion Hunt
A family of killer whales hunted and killed a sea lion as whale watch groups looked on in Monterey Bay, California, on April 8.
The adult female, named Star, and her three calves, Bumper, Orion and Comet, engaged in a prolonged game of “cat and mouse” with the sea lion, Monterey Bay Whale Watch reported on Facebook. They described the hunt as a learning exercise for the youngest of the whales, Comet.
Eventually, the whales made the kill and began sharing the meat with each other. Credit: Monterey Bay Whale Watch via Storyful
