What direction is One Direction headed?

Conflicting reports abound about One Direction’s future. If they break up, they could be leaving a lot of money on the table.

One Direction is one of the most financially successful acts of the past decade. They formed during the British version of “The X Factor” in 2010 and by 2013, they were worth about £25 million, according to The Sunday Times. At the time, they ranged in age between 19 and 21 years old.

But that was just the beginning.

In 2014, Forbes reported that the band was earning $75 million, making them the 7th highest-paid act. That year, Billboard reported that One Direction’s “Where We Are” tour pulled in more than $290 million from 3.4 million attendees.

A year later, Forbes calculated "1D" earnings at $130 million, moving them to 4th place of performers in 2015.

All that money wasn’t enough to keep Zayn Malik. He left “1D” in March 2015.

One Direction said they were taking an 18-month “hiatus” in December 2015, but recent reports say it may be a permanent break. But the band’s representatives continue to deny the One Direction boys have gone their separate ways.
