What to expect when League of Legends, Teamfight Tactics relaunch in SEA in Jan 2023
The long wait is almost over for players of League of Legends (LoL) and Teamfight Tactics (TFT) players in Southeast Asia, with Riot Games announcing that the region servers for both games will go live on 6 January 2023.
This change comes as Riot Games will take over publishing of LoL and TFT in Southeast Asia from Garena.
With this move, Riot hopes to better integrate the region into the global community and provide a more positive experience for players of both games.
But, what should players expect from this change? Here’s everything you should know so far.
LoL Garena accounts will be deactivated
All Garena accounts connected to LoL will be deactivated in January. All Garena shells can’t be converted to Riot points, but you can use these for other transactions in other Garena games.
Hopefully, you will have migrated your Garena account to a Riot Games account by this time.
If you haven’t, here’s a quick tutorial for you to secure your account.
Welcome event
To celebrate the occasion, players will have access to a fun, month-long in-game welcome event when they log in to play in January.
The welcome event will give players tokens that can be exchanged for permanent skin shards, legendary eggs, and more free loot.
LoL players have a chance to own all previously released champions
The relaunch is also a great chance for you to complete your champion roster!
LoL players in Southeast Asia will get a chance to receive all previously released champions from 2009 to 2021 for free. All they need to do is to complete a set of in-game missions.
This is exclusive to SEA servers.
Access to previously unavailable content
Players will receive access to previously inaccessible content that other regions enjoy with the reintroduction of LoL and TFT under Riot publishing.
This will include modes like Clash, a competitive game mode that allows players to compete in a tournament-style bracket for in-game prizes.
Players in the region can also now enjoy cross-game campaign content like Ruination, Star Guardians, and more.
On top of that, LoL and TFT esports fans can expect to enjoy brand-new tournaments in 2023. Players can also access esports-related campaigns and rewards, like the Worlds Pick ’ems.
More local events and campaigns
With Riot self-publishing these titles, they’re also expanding across Asia-Pacific and setting up offices in the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, and India.
This means players can expect more localized events and campaigns in these countries. There will also be more partnerships and activities that players can look forward to.
Riot will retain its publishing operations in Singapore and Japan, so these regions will also still continue to enjoy these hyper-localised events.
