What the weather will be like near you this week as 'proper cold' sets in
The UK is set to experience its ‘first proper cold weather’ this autumn over the next few days.
The UK is set to experience “some proper cold weather for the first time this autumn” as an arctic air mass rolls in.
Temperatures over the weekend reached 15C, and while rain has been experienced this week, it hasn't got any colder.
However, the next couple of days will see a big change, with cold weather expected over much of the country, according to BBC weather forecaster Darren Bett.
He told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme on Wednesday morning: “We’ve got an arctic air mass heading our way over the next couple of days, some proper cold weather for the first time this autumn.“
Arctic air masses bring wet, cold air into the country and are responsible for snow in winter.
Calmer conditions have been experienced so far this week, following Storm Debi last week, which brought flooding, heavy rain and high winds to the UK for several days.
A change is on its way...👀📉
After a rather mild, albeit cloudy few days, temperatures are going to drop as we go into Friday and the start of the weekend
