Whatcom gas’s prices leap again, along with WA state. Here’s how to find the lowest prices

Drivers in Washington state are cutting down on road trips and using less gas because of soaring prices at the pump.

Washington state’s and Whatcom County’s gas prices have increased again this month, but we’ve found the cheapest local gas in the county for you to save at the pump.

The national average price of a gallon of gas was $3.54 on Monday, July 10, according to the American Automobile Association, 4-cents less than last month’s average.

Gas prices in Washington, Whatcom County and Bellingham also increased.

Washington gas prices

Washington state’s average cost of gas per gallon is now $4.96 — a 17-cent increase from June’s average of $4.79. Last July, gas averaged $5.36 a gallon in Washington state, 40 cents above the current average, according to AAA.

Although gas prices dropped from extreme highs in 2022, Washington state’s average cost of gas per gallon has continued to increase throughout 2023.

Washington state has the highest gas prices in the country, even surpassing California and Hawaii, the states that usually have the highest prices. California currently has the second highest gas prices in the country at $4.87 a gallon, followed by Hawaii with $4.69 a gallon, according to AAA.

Whatcom County prices

Whatcom County’s average cost of gas per gallon was one of the lowest in the state in January at $3.62 according to AAA data. Since then, Whatcom’s gas prices have steadily increased.

On July 10, Whatcom County’s average gallon of gas is $4.87, a 27-cent increase compared with June.

Bellingham’s average gallon of gas is $4.88 according to AAA, a 17-cent increase from last month’s average of $4.71.
