Whatcom Roundup: Go-karts zoom into Bellingham; new tenant in Sunset Square; bakery expands

Here’s your weekly roundup of the latest retail, business and restaurant activity in and around Whatcom County:

Electric go-karts coming to Bellingham

Volli Entertainment Center & Sports Bar, an indoor entertainment center with pickleball, mini golf, cornhole, pool and other games, is planning to add electric go-karts to its facility. The business filed a permit with the city of Bellingham to convert pickleball courts to an electric go-kart track. The permit was filed Jan. 29 and had not been approved as of Feb. 5. Volli is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday at 4190 Cordata Parkway in Bellingham.

Sweet as Waffles now catering

Sweet as Waffles, a restaurant that serves both sweet and savory waffles, has announced a catering program for weddings and other events.

Beginning in spring 2024 the company will start catering with its light pink trailer. The brick and mortar restaurant is also open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 9 a.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday; and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at 122 E Magnolia St. in Bellingham.

Pie shop adding dinner menu

Barb’s Pies and Pastries, a bakery and dessert shop in Ferndale, has announced new dinner offerings starting Thursday, Feb. 15. According to a Feb. 5 Facebook post, the well-loved bakery will now be staying open for dinner in addition to its breakfast and lunch offerings. The new menu includes pastas, pizzas, burgers and appetizers.

Barb’s Pies and Pastries will be open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, and 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday at 2054 Main St. in Ferndale.

AT&T planning new location

AT&T, the phone carrier, has filed a permit with the city for a new store inside Sunset Square at 1145 E Sunset Dr. Suite 130, with an estimated cost of $69,000. The proposed new store would be next to Round Table Pizza. The permit was filed Jan. 30 and had not been approved as of Feb. 5. AT&T currently has other Bellingham locations in Bellis Fair mall, at 102 N Samish Way and 4291 Meridian St.
