What's the Buzz: Drag queens and a polar plunge to brighten up your winter

We’re once again getting into that deep, cold part of winter. Shake off that snow and head out for some fun. Whatever you choose, I’ll be highlighting attractions, activities, and festivals right here, every week. From local music and shows to options for those of you who don’t mind traveling a bit, there’s something for everyone. Be sure to check all activities, as cancellations can occur. The events listed are for Jan. 27 - Feb. 5.

Saturday

Polar Plunge for Bexley. After being canceled last year, the sixth annual Polar Plunge is back. Head to Wolf Run State Park and watch as brave souls run, jump and leap into the icy cold waters to help raise money for a local family. Those who wish to participate are asked for a donation of $20, and those wishing to watch are asked for a donation of $2. Waivers must be signed, and the Noble County dive team, paramedics, and the Noble County Sheriff will be on hand for support. Happy Trails DJ service will be providing music, and concessions will be available for donation. For more information contact Rusty Moncrief at 740-509-0085. Plunging is scheduled to begin at noon. A Day of the Arts. Secrest Auditorium in conjunction with the Serenity Holistic Community is coming together to raise money for the recently devastated Masonic Temple artists. A full day of activities is planned, with a silent auction, art walk, and live music. Scheduled to perform are Tonga Rad, Evan Abood, Hillbound Gypsies and more. A variety show, Home, will also be happening. Vendors will have booths available for those wishing to shop. Tickets begin at $5 and can be purchased at www.secrestauditorium.com. Drag Night. You don’t have to go to England to see a queen, just take a short drive to Parkersburg. The Cocktail Bar will host its January drag show. Grab some friends and enjoy some laughs and music at a performance you won’t soon forget. There is a $5 cover charge, and the shows begin at 10 p.m. and midnight. Sunday

Tux & Stuff Bridal Show 2022. Get help planning the wedding of your dreams at the Tux & Stuff Bridal show. More than 25 vendors are scheduled to be on hand. Attendees have a chance to win door prizes and a $500 grand prize. The event is scheduled to run from noon to 4 p.m. For more information call 740-421-9120 or visit the Tux & Stuff Facebook page. Feb. 3

Ethan Timm. A little winter jam session is always enjoyable. Head down to Georgetown Vineyards to hear the vocal stylings of Ethan Timm. The acoustic guitarist and singer will perform from 5 to 8 p.m., covering classics and original pieces as well. For more information call 740-435-3222.
