What's the Buzz: Get ready for the holidays, the Dickens characters are coming

Pick any one of the events happening in and around the area to keep your week busy. I’ll be highlighting attractions, activities, and festivals right here, every week. From local music and shows to options for those of you who don’t mind traveling a bit, there’s something for everyone. Be sure to check all activities, as cancellations can occur. The events listed are for Oct. 27 to Nov. 5.

Saturday

Fall Tractor Cruise. Hop up in the cab of that tractor and head to the Guernsey County fairgrounds to set off on a tractor cruise. The cruise is scheduled to depart at 10 a.m., with a plan to stop mid-way through for lunch before returning to the fairgrounds. Any questions can be directed to Dave McCormick at 740-391-4722. There will be a food stand at the fairgrounds, with proceeds to benefit the Junior Fair Boer goat committee. Guernsey County Fairgrounds, 335 Old National Road, Old Washington.

November 4

Reba McEntire. Nationwide Arena in Columbus will be hosting Country Music Hall of Fame legend Reba McEntire, with Terri Clark. The show is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m., and tickets start at $49 per person (at the time of writing) and can be purchased by visiting www.ticketmaster.com. November 5

Dickens Opening Ceremonies. It's that glorious time of year when the streets of Cambridge are transformed into a magical, Dickens wonderland. Wheeling Avenue will be abuzz will activities all day. The Brook Singers will be strolling about singing carols, the Akron bagpipe band will be at the Dickens Welcome Center, actors from The Living Word Outdoor Drama will be performing scenes, the Cambridge Singers will be at Black Cat Antiques at 5 p.m. and the list goes on. A special visit from Her Majesty Queen Victoria at the courthouse will mark the official start of the Cambridge holiday season. Music from Chordial Chorus and a candle-lighting ceremony will follow, as well as a reception at the library after the opening ceremony. For a full list of activities visit the event's Facebook page. As highlighted in last week's column:

  • Friday. Witch's BREW. Join the Cambridge Area Chamber of Commerce at the Pritchard Laughlin Civic Center for the annual Witch's BREW (Bold Recognition of Exceptional Women). Tickets are $35, and the event is scheduled to run from 5:30 to 8 p.m. For more information or to purchase tickets visit the chamber website at https://cambridgeohiochamber.com.   • Saturday. 2022 Monster Mash. The Monster Mash returns to Byesville with more than 15 businesses registered to participate. The event is scheduled to run from 4 to 6 p.m. Food trucks will be on-site selling concessions and mini golf will also be available. This is a free, family-friendly event. Byesville Square, corner of S. Second St. and Ohio 209, Byesville.

  • Halloween Costume Party and Terror Room. Head to the Byesville Fire Department bingo hall for a costume party and terror room. Walk through the Terror Room and get the fright of your life. The suggested age recommendation for the Terror Room is 10 years old with an adult. This free event is scheduled to run from 6 to 9 p.m. For more information call 740-685-2222.
