What's closed for the New Year's holiday?

Sunday is New Year's Day, but the federal holiday is observed on Monday. Because of this:

• City of Columbus and other local governments, Franklin County and other county governments, State of Ohio and U.S. government offices will be closed Monday.

• There will be regular mail delivery Saturday/New Year's Eve. There is normally no regular mail delivery on Sunday, and there will be no regular mail delivery Monday for the observed holiday. Priority Mail Express mail will be delivered Sunday/New Year's Day in limited locations for an additional fee. Post offices will be open Saturday/New Year's Eve, but may be for limited hours. Check your local Post Office location for specific hours. Mail will be picked up at blue collection boxes on Saturday, but it is recommended you drop your mail in the collection boxes before noon regardless of what collection time is listed on the boxes. Otherwise, go to your local post office. Regular post office hours and mail delivery will resume on Tuesday.

• Parking meters in Columbus will be free on Monday, but parking restrictions will remain at some meters, such as in residential parking permit areas and zones marked for valets, taxis and loadings. Motorists are advised to read signs.  The Columbus Parking Violations Bureau and Right-of-Way Permits Office will be closed Monday for the observed holiday and reopen Tuesday.

• There will be no Columbus city trash collection on Monday.  For residents assigned a color-coded collection, trash pickup will rotate forward by one day until the next holiday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, on Jan. 16. For those without a color-coded collection day, your collection day will occur on the second day of the two-day collection window. Those without color-coded collection dates can call 614-645-3111 or log onto 311.columbus.gov to check your refuse collection day. Rumpke’s bi-weekly recycling and yard waste collections will run as scheduled on Monday.

• All Columbus Metropolitan Library locations will be closed Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The library system will resume regular hours Tuesday.

• The Central Ohio Transit Authority will operate on a Sunday schedule on New Year's Day. COTA's customer service call center, as well as the pass sales office at 33 N. High St., will be closed Sunday.

• Ohio State University campus offices will be closed through Monday, reopening Tuesday.  There are no classes. Classes at OSU will resume Jan. 9. Columbus State Community College campus offices are closed through Monday, reopening Tuesday.  There are no classes. Classes for some January term students begin Tuesday, but regular spring semester classes don't begin until Jan. 18.
