What's coming to Rehoboth Boardwalk's iconic corner? New plans for Dolle's site revealed.

For decades, Delaware beachgoers lined up at 1 Rehoboth Ave. on the boardwalk for caramel corn and salt water taffy.

But with the iconic Dolle's sign removed and its store at the center stretch of the Rehoboth Beach boardwalk empty, another beach staple is ready to take its place.

From the workers bustling about in red shirts to the boxes of leftovers carried back to the beach, Grotto Pizza has a legacy in southern Delaware, a presence that is deeply intertwined in many families’ summer traditions.

And now, its founder Dominick Pulieri is hoping to make an even bigger lasting impact on the Nation’s Summer Capital.

The iconic Dolle's sign, that stood for many years at Rehoboth Avenue and the Boardwalk in Rehoboth Beach, was removed and relocated to the Rehoboth Museum.

Reporter Emily Lytle updated the plans this week for Grotto Pizza to move its Baltimore Avenue location to the popular boardwalk site and also broke the news that they will be opening more than a pizza shop.

Beyond remodeling and modernizing the new restaurant at this major boardwalk corner, Grotto plans to build a boutique hotel with underground parking in that same block.
