Great Crossings DAR reorganizes

The Great Crossings Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) held their election of officers on April 9.

Also, members donated and packed 10 boxes of non-perishable food items, crossword puzzles, sudoku and other items to send to the USS Key West submarine. These boxes are to show appreciation for the freedoms we enjoy every day because of courageous service members, like these, so young and so far from home. Each box also contained a handwritten, heartfelt thank you card to boost and lift the spirits from their monotonous and dangerous, 24/7, job responsibilities.

The Great Crossings Chapter was formed Jan. 19, 1909, by Mary Connelly Endsley, organizing regent, and 36 charter members. The chapter name is derived from George Washington’s Youghiogheny River Crossing at Somerfield. The mission is to serve the community through historic preservation, education and patriotism. Membership is open to women, 18 years of older, with proven lineage tracing to an American Revolution Patriot. Great Crossings owns the Petersburg Tollhouse in Addison, and provides tours upon request and appointment.

For those who have an interest in history and honoring veterans and active service members, they can become a member of the Great Crossings DAR. Contact Susan Moon, 814-233-5238.
