Windber Miners' Memorial Day Weekend

Live music, street dances, food vendors and activities every day during the Windber Miners' Memorial Day Weekend, June 16-19. Events include Father's Day Car Show and Cruise-In noon-5 p.m. Sunday, in Windber. There will be 26 fun awards presented at 4 p.m. Judging by racing stars from the local speedways. Dash plaques to the first 200 entrants. Huge basket party, duck race in Paint Creek, games, food and drink.

“You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown”

The Community Arts Center of Cambria County musical theatre “You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown.” The production will include high energy dancing numbers and audience interaction. The show will be the debut production in the Community Arts Center’s M. Josephine Paul Family Museum, which doubles as a black box theatre, 1217 Menoher Blvd., in the Westmont section of Johnstown. Performance dates: Friday, Saturday, June 24 and June 25, 7 p.m.; Sunday, June 26 2 p.m. (matinee) Friday. Doors at 7 p.m. Music at 7:30 p.m. BYOB is welcome with proper I.D. Friday 7:30 p.m. Walk On Mars, an Alternative Rock band formed at Berklee College of Music in Boston. The band kicked off their journey on YouTube with more than 25,000 views on My Chemical Romance’s “Cancer.” Saturday 7:30 p.m. The Don Aliquo Quartet, featuring the Pittsburgh based quartet.

Drone Camps

Laurel Highlands Education and Robotic's third annual Drone Camps provide two hours of drone activities geared for both beginners and experienced flyers. As a bonus, students will hear about LHER's robotics programs and have the opportunity to drive robots built by local high school students. Camps are at 150 Old Ridge Road, Rear Lower Level, Hollsopple. Drone Boot Camp is 2-4 p.m. Friday and 24, and 6-8 p.m. June 20 and 27. Drone Camps for ages 8 and up, provide two hours of drone activities geared for both beginners and experienced flyers.

Kid’s Krusade at Life Church

The KnightLights presents Circus of the Stars — “God’s Amazing Creation is the Greatest Show on Earth!” at 107 Bantley Place, Windber, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Saturday. A free lunch is provided. Chicken BBQ

The Unity UCC Father's Day chicken barbecue, 2074 Huckleberry Highway, Berlin, is from 11:30 a.m. until sold out Sunday, in the church social hall. Desserts and drinks will be available for purchase. Eat in and take-out available. Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. or until sold out will be a la carte items. Tickets for basket raffle will be available for purchase in the social hall June Friday-Sunday for the camp committee's annual fundraiser to help send the local children to Camp Living Waters. Winners will be drawn on Sunday afternoon. No need to be present to win.

Truck & Tractor Pull

The Western Maryland Championship Truck & Tractor Pull is 6 p.m. Saturday, at the Garrett County Fairgrounds. Classes are light limited; pro farm; two-wheel drive trucks; street diesel pickups; and mod turbo tractors. Proceeds go to Grantsville Fire Department.

Blood drive

The Somerset Masonic Lodge is hosting a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Free community dinner

A free community dinner, served at the Windber Area Community Kitchen, will be held from 4-6 p.m. Saturday, at Calvary United Methodist Church, 1800 Stockholm Ave., Windber. The menu will be barbecue chicken, potato salad, baked beans, fruit, bread and dessert. The meal will be served and sponsored by Right Elevator.

Sausage and Pancake Breakfast

All-you-can-eat sausage and pancake breakfast is from 7-11 a.m. Saturday, at Maple Spring Church of the Brethren, 106 Spring Road, Hollsopple, 814-479-7062. Menu is pancakes, sausage and scrambled eggs, juice and coffee and real maple syrup. A special welcome to first responders — police, fire and EMTs. First responders are invited to have breakfast on them as a token of their appreciation. Donations accepted to benefit the District Disaster Fund that supports relief efforts in the local community and Eastern United States.

Movies Night

Movies night is back during the summer at Keystone State Park. The park will be playing a variety of movies at the beach house. The movies will be shown on a projector screen outside on the lawn. So grab your blankets, chairs and make sure you dress for the weather. The times for the movies are at 8:30 p.m., depending on when it gets dark. Movies will not be shown in inclement weather. Saturday — Brave. June 25 — Swiss Family Robinson. July 2 — Mouse Hunt.

Donate to veterans

Laurel Highlands Historical Village continues to collect food, paper goods and hygiene products for area veterans who need our help. Take donations to the Galleria Mall Lottery booth, Hoss’s in Ebensburg or Johnstown, Kimmies restaurant in Mundys Corner, Stagers in Portage and just added is Randy’s BiLo in Windber. Allegheny Portage Railroad NHS

Costumed rangers conduct a variety of daily program offerings that vary from day to day at Allegheny Portage Railroad National Historic Site, 10 miles west of Altoona, off the Gallitzin exit of U.S. Highway 22. The programs are offered now through Sept. 30, and are generally held between 10 a.m. and 12 p.m. and from 2-4 p.m. The programs are weather and staff dependent. 9th annual Lincoln Highway SupperMarket

The Lincoln Highway Experience’s annual Lincoln Highway SupperMarket is returning to the Route 30-based museum this summer for its ninth year. The popular weekly open-air food festival will take place on 13 Wednesdays from June 1-Aug. 24, 5 – 8 p.m., weather permitting, at the Lincoln Highway Experience’s grounds at 3435 Route 30 East in Latrobe. Guests can enjoy breezy summer evenings on the spacious lawn with great food from local chefs, BYOB, and live music. There is a charge per car for admission. Additional cost for food purchased from chefs’ booths. Tables are limited, so it is suggested that attendees also bring chairs or blankets, especially if you will be arriving late. No outside food or pets are permitted. The 2022 participating local chefs are Aroma Italiano, Chef Dato’s Table, Connections Café, Grateful Smoke BBQ and Simply Good. The Boswell Volunteer Fire Department, 201 Hower Ave., Boswell, chicken barbecue is Sunday, from 11 a.m. until sold out. The meal includes half chicken, baked beans, haluski, dinner roll and gob.

Fly in Breakfast

The 72nd annual Father's Day Fly in Breakfast and Car Cruise is from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, at the Somerset County Airport. Breakfast will be served from 8 a.m. until noon. Chicken barbecue at noon. All proceeds benefit the Somerset Aero Club Scholarship Fund.

Father's Day Concert

Somerset County Community Band annual Father's Day concert on the lawn stage at Dressler Art Center in Somerset is at 3 p.m. Sunday. Bring a snack or something to drink, and enjoy a free ice cream sundae compliments of the band. The band is an affiliate of Laurel Arts. It was formed in 1989 and missed only one year of performing during COVID-19 restrictions in 2020. Members range from high school students to grandparents, and new members are always welcome. Johnstown Flood National Memorial

Join a Park Ranger for a guided walk through the ruins of the South Fork Dam, daily at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., now through Sept. 30. This interpretive walk will last approximately 45 minutes and will take participants to the bottom of the dam, through the breach and back out on the other side. The meeting location is on the South Abutment. Participants will learn about May 31, 1889, the hillside across from the dam, and much more. The last portion of the walk contains a steep section with stairs. The walk is approximately 1/3 mile. Participants are encouraged to wear proper shoes and bring water. Tales of the Great Flood ranger talks will take place in the Visitor Center Theater or outside at the Lake View House, following showings of the park film, “Black Friday.” These talks will be approximately 15-minutes in length. The program is offered Fridays through Mondays now through Sept. 26, at 9:55 a.m., 10:55 a.m., 11:55 a.m., 1:55 p.m., 2:55 p.m., and 3:55 p.m. Inquire at the desk on the day of your visit for program offerings and location. Graffiti night

The Johnstown Street Survivors Car Club will be hosting a graffiti night at the Silver Drive-In at 1664 Scalp Ave., Johnstown, June 22. Gates will open at 7 p.m. for a car cruise before the movies. The first movie starts at dusk (around 8:45 p.m. ). The movies will be Cannonball Run and Wild Hogs. Admission is charged. Bring a battery powered radio to listen to the movies. 2022 Coffee House Series

The Community Arts Center of Cambria County 7th season of the Coffee House Series taking place outdoors on the Center’s Amphitheatre. During inclement weather, the Coffee House will move from the Amphitheatre to indoors in the main space gallery of the Goldhaber-Fend Fine Arts Center building. The Coffee House Series will be providing coffees, teas, and baked goods for purchase during the event. All Coffee Houses start at 7 p.m. and run roughly until 8:30 p.m. June 23 Tim Dabbs. His melodic playing style compliments his tenor voice, and is well suited to the topical songs as well as the tender ballads that make up his repertoire.

Nautical Nights

A Yacht Rock Theme Dinner Party "Nautical Nights," to benefit Laurel Arts, June 24, at Indian Lake Lodge, 700 S. Shore Trail, Indian Lake. Relay For Life of Somerset

Relay For Life is a community block party style event to raise funds to fight cancer. There are activities and entertainment for all ages from 3-11 p.m. June 25, at the Somerset athletic field, 511 Franklin Ave., Somerset. Basket alley, survivor lap and reception, live auction, DJ Music Express, food trucks, Disney Princess lap and luminary service. Park at Somerset Area High School. Jackie’s Garden Works Concert Series invites music lovers of all ages to enjoy live performances, food and drinks in one of Johnstown's unique venues. Girl Scouts registration

Girls in grades K-12 and adults are invited to join Girl Scouts by participating in an early-registration program with Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania. New members can purchase an extended-year membership at a discounted price, which will cover both the remainder of the 2022 membership year as well as the 2023 membership year. These members can join existing troops or start a new troop. Girls who are entering kindergarten in the fall of 2022 are eligible to register as a Girl Scout Daisy. Becoming a Girl Scout Daisy allows girls to partake in age-appropriate, engaging activities that help these young members understand the mission of Girl Scouts. Those who are interested in joining Girl Scouts are encouraged to attend one of the free sign-up events offered by Girl Scouts Western Pennsylvania. Blue Star Salute

The Somerset County Military Family Support Group (SCMFSG) is hosting a Blue Star Salute and Military Family Day event from 12-4 p.m. June 25, at The Puddle, 1337 Husband Road, Somerset. This event's main feature will be a ceremony at 1:30 p.m. to recognize eligible Blue Star families from Somerset County with Blue Star banners. The event will also offer family friendly entertainment, kids activities, a chicken barbecue fundraiser, and networking with organizations that serve service members, families, and veterans in our county. They are still accepting organizations to participate as vendors as well as Blue Star family members to receive banners. Eligible Blue Star family members include the wife, husband, mother, father, stepfather/stepmother, parent through adoption, foster parents, children, stepchildren, children through adoption, siblings and half-siblings of a member of the Armed Forces of the United States. Trivia Night

Trivia Night at Meyersdale Post 112 American Legion, 413 Grant St., Meyersdale, is the last Wednesday of every month for four rounds of competitive trivia, starting at 6:30 p.m. June 29. Each night will be a different theme. The first Trivia Night will be general trivia. Teams welcomed with up to six individuals per team. No entry fee. Group prize awarded to the first place team. Golf outing to benefit Tunnel to Towers

The first golf outing to benefit Tunnel to Towers Foundation, swing for the vets and first responders, is 10 a.m. July 2, at Northwinds and Northwinds Peninsula (Arnold Palmer's first designed course). Allied Artists Summer Show

Poorbaugh/Burbach reunion

A reunion of related descendants of Philip Burbach/Poorbaugh, (Ca 1750-1812), will be held July 10, at the Mt. Olivet Church grove in Northampton Township, 9 miles south of Berlin, off LR2020. This is a continuation of the Poorbaugh/Purbaugh/ Burbach reunion which held its 66th reunion in 2019. The first reunion of the association was in 1952. All Poor/Pur/Bur ‘baugh/’bach relatives are invited. Lunch will be at 1 p.m. Ham, chicken and hot and cold beverages will be provided. Participants should bring their own place settings and a favorite dish and/or dessert to share. Program: a genealogy Q&A and shared remembrances.
