Strawberry Festival

WalkWorks Wednesdays

The Recreation Economic Committee (REC) of the Cambria Regional Chamber, in partnership with the 1889 Jefferson Center for Population Health, is bringing WalkWorks Wednesdays back to Downtown Johnstown at noon on Wednesdays, through June 21. The walking group will meet near the Cambria County Library, corner of Main and Walnut streets, and will follow a predetermined route. Anyone living, working, or visiting downtown Johnstown is welcome to join this informal walking group. It will provide a great opportunity for participants to get exercise, meet new people and share ideas. Johnstown’s WalkWorks route encompasses 1.8 miles and includes many scenic and historic sites in the city, including the Stone Bridge, the Johnstown Flood Museum, and the Iron to Arts Corridor. There is also a shorter 1-mile option. WalkWorks signs pepper the city streets to keep walkers on the correct route.

Farmers Market

Coffee House Series

The Community Arts Center of Cambria County (CACCC) 8th season of the Coffee House Series outdoors on CACCC’s Amphitheatre or indoors in the main space gallery of the Goldhaber-Fend Fine Arts Center building. 19th annual Wheels & Wings

Ebensburg is gearing up for the 19th annual “Wheels & Wings” June 22, in Historic Downtown Ebensburg. This car, truck, and motorcycle show, held in conjunction with Johnstown’s Thunder in the Valley motorcycle rally, will be combined with a wing-off between local restaurants and vendors. Live music entertainment from 6-9:30 p.m. by local rock band Giants of Science, at the intersection of Center and Sample streets. Vehicle registration will begin at 4:30 p.m. on the day of the event only. Only the first 250 vehicles will be registered, and the first 100 registrants will receive a "Wheels & Wings" dash plaque sponsored by Roundhouse Harley-Davidson. Registration vehicles will enter at the corner of Caroline and High streets. This year, vehicles will once again be judged by classes but there will only be one winner per class. There will be three bike classes; Sport Bike, Cruisers & Custom Bikes; five car classes: Pre-50s, 50s, 60s, 70s, Post-80s, and a truck class. A panel of judges will award trophies to one “Best in Class” winner in each class, and a plaque to the overall “Best of Show” award winner to one car, one truck and one motorcycle. The awards will be announced at 8:30 pm from the entertainment area. Food vendors will be lined up along W. Sample Street serving up their best wings from 5–10 p.m. while competing for the title of “Best Wings!” Additional awards will be given out for “Best Hot Wings,” “Best Sweet & Spicy Wings” and “Most Creative Recipe.” Other items for sale will include fresh-cut fries, brisket, smoked ribs, hot and sweet Italian sausage, pulled pork, halushki, wood-fired pizza, Philly cheesesteak, chicken fingers, burgers, hot dogs, mac n’ cheese and much more. New this year, we will have two local distilleries onsite – Excise Distillery and Moonshine Mine Distillery. 2023 SummerQuest

The Mary S. Biesecker Public Library 2023 SummerQuest summer learning program. Annual outdoor story times 10 a.m., at the Union Street Playground. The stories are designed for toddlers, preschoolers and students grades K-2 and will be held on June 27, July 11 and 18. Baby Rhyme Time for children under 2 years old. In case of inclement weather, relocate to the library. The Penn State Master Gardeners of Somerset County Budding Gardeners program gardening workshops for children from grades K-5, Thursdays in June (June 22 and 29) at 10 a.m. at the Biesecker Library. This year, the gardeners will host classes on butterflies, creating a butterfly habitat, container gardening and bees. Space is limited, so sign up as soon as possible. As a participant in the Summer Youth Cafe Program, free lunch will be served from 11 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays through July 18, along with at the Budding Gardeners events on Thursdays in June, at the Union Street Playground. Lunches are provided by the Summer Food Service Program of the Pittsburgh Food Bank. Sign up in advance so that an appropriate amount of lunches can be prepared. Older children and teens are invited to take part in the Summer Learning program through July 25. Grades 3-5 can register at the library and pick up a reading bingo card. If completed by July 25, return it to the library for a free book. Grades 6-12 can read at least two books and write two teen book reviews in order to be eligible for a free book. Levitt AMP Cumberland Music Series

The Allegany Arts Council lineup for the 2023 Levitt AMP Cumberland Music Series on the Festival Grounds at Canal Place at 6:30 p.m. each Thursday, through Aug. 3, performances will be family-friendly and attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, picnic blankets, and food and beverages to enjoy the show. Somerset County Recycling is hosting a free electronics collection event 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 24, at 4192 Glades Pike, Somerset (Giant Eagle). This drop off collection event with JVS Environmental is open to all county residents. Accepted electronics include televisions, printers, computers, monitors, laptops, cell phones withno cost associated. Country Gardens Tour

The Mountain Laurel Garden Club Country Gardens Tour 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 24, rain or shine, no pets. The tour features two gardens in the Paradise Point area of Deep Creek Lake, a fern and hosta garden in Mountain Lake Park, and a flower farm off Gorman Road, Route 560. The Habitat for Humanity Committee will have a display on the club’s ongoing work to plan and create native plant gardens at Habitat homes in Hopeland Village. The UMD Extension service and Garrett County Master Gardeners will also have information on local gardening. Stuff the bus

For the second year, the United Way of the Laurel Highlands is working with CamTran and Giant Eagle in an effort to support the United Way's growing Diaper Bank with Stuff the Bus. From noon to 6 p.m. June 30, a CamTran bus will be parked at the Giant Eagle in Richland Township, where community members can help to stuff it with diapers. Stuff the Bus is a diaper drive to keep the inventory stocked. More than 24,000 diapers and wipes were donated during last year's event. Stop by with a package of diapers or wipes. Monetary donations will be used to buy diapers in the size of greatest need. Buy a package of diapers while shopping at Giant Eagle on the day of the event and help load the bus.

CACCC exhibition

The Community Arts Center of Cambria County 2023 June and July exhibition, Shakti, the Power of the Feminine!, an exhibition featuring a mixture of paintings by artist Nalini Bhat. Shakti, the Power of the Feminine! will be hosted in the Goldhaber-Fend Fine Arts Center gallery and showcase a wide variety of Nalini’s artistic works. Exhibit will be on display through July 28. CACCC Cultural India Art Luncheon

The Community Arts Center of Cambria County presents "India Wonders: A Cultural Art Luncheon"from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 8. This event will be filled with art, entertainment, and food from India Garden. This special cultural luncheon will begin with a gallery talk about the displayed works of Nalini Bhat’s "Shakti, the Power of the Feminine!" exhibition; along with traditional Chai Tea, served hot or cold as authentic cultural music from the Terra Pan will be played by Mark Ed. An authentic Indian lunch from India Garden will include chicken tikka masala (boneless chicken cooked and curried in Indian spices), palak paneer (spinach and homemade Indian cubed cheese cooked with aromatic Indian spices), rice, naan bread (bread cooked in clay oven), and jalebies (funnel like shape made out of flour and rice flour) for dessert. In addition, the entertainment of belly dancing and sword dance will take place during lunch.

Antiques & Collectibles

The Hanna’s Town Antiques & Collectors Market is held the second Sunday of each month through October. The gate opens at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, and the market continues through early afternoon, although some vendors are set up by 1 p.m. Saturday and sell that afternoon. There is parking on site. Future dates for 2023 are July 9, Aug. 13, Sept. 10, and Oct. 8. Proceeds benefit the Westmoreland Historical Society’s education and preservation projects at Historic Hanna’s Town, a Revolutionary War period settlement and site of the first English courts west of the Allegheny Mountains. Poorbaugh/Burbach reunion

A reunion of related descendants of Philip Burbach/Poorbaugh, (Ca 1750-1812), will be held July 9, at the Mt. Olivet Church grove in Northampton Township, 9 miles South of Berlin, off LR2020. This is a continuation of Poorbaugh/Purbaugh/ Burbach reunions which held it’s 67th reunion in 2022. The first reunion of the association was in 1952. Summer development series

The Learning Lamp and Pennsylvania Association for the Education of Young Children, PennAEYC, launched a free summer professional development series. Ligonier Night Market

The monthly Ligonier Night Market is around The Diamond and along Main Street in historic downtown Ligonier. Food products from more than 30 local farmers and food processors. Night Market added last year to sell their hand-made goods and products ― ranging from unique woodcrafts to original artwork and more. The Ligonier Country Market (LCM) and the Ligonier Valley Chamber of Commerce co-sponsor the Night Market, which will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on the third Thursday of each month through September (July 20, Aug. 17, and Sept. 21). Musical entertainment schedule: artists will perform on the Diamond Park bandstand: July 20: Acoustical Bruce; Aug. 17: Detention; Sept. 21: Cashout. Books Come Alive ― a unique library-based outreach program that takes best loved children's books and turns them into 30-minute musicals designed to reach students in kindergarten through sixth grade. Performances to the Night Market Aug. 17 (The Velveteen Rabbit). The shows will start at 6 p.m. and will be held on the library’s outside patio. Classic & Antique Car Cruise

The Classic & Antique Car Cruise is 1-5 p.m. July 30, at Queen of Angels Church, St. John Site, 162 Wheeler St., Central City. Featuring food, soft drinks, beer and other refreshments. Live oldies music by Americana from 2-5 p.m. First 25 cars receive a gift. All vehicles blessed upon request. For more information call Queen of Angels Rectory, 814-754-5224. Cruise will be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. All proceeds benefit a local child who recently received a heart transplant.
