Description: The former Izzy's Pizza & Buffet on Lancaster that closed in 2020 is being renovated into a veterinary clinic, according to city permit records.

Banfield Pet Hospital is set to open at the location. An existing location is inside the PetSmart at 2925 Lancaster Drive NE. Company officials did not respond to questions on when the new location would open and whether it would be in addition or replacing the existing pet hospital.

The 4,593-square-foot space will include a lobby, exam room, treatment area, X-ray, surgery and support areas. Overnight stays for animals will not be permitted.

Banfield was founded in Portland in 1955 and is now the "leading provider of preventive veterinary care" in the United States, according to its website. It has more than 1,000 hospitals nationwide.

The company noted a sharp uptick in visits in recent years due to increased pet ownership during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The new location is in the same shopping center as Bi-Mart, La Tapatia Supermarket and Five Guys.

Izzy's was a longtime, Albany-based pizza chain with locations throughout Oregon that started in 1979. The restaurant was known for its cinnamon rolls, buffet and pizza dough.

Salem once had two locations, one on Lancaster and the other on Commercial Street SE.

The company began shuttering stores in 2020. The website and social media pages for Izzy's are no longer active.
