What's Happening? 10 things going on in the Fayetteville area this weekend

The Fayetteville area has plenty of events to offer in the coming days from the arts to the circus.

Last year, Fayetteville photographer Maura Trice started planning an exhibit to highlight the diversity of beauty. Trice's More Than a Body exhibit is now ready to launch at Belmont Village, 1104 Hay St., 2-4 p.m. Saturday.

The exhibit has 10 portraits telling the stories of 10 women. The event will be outdoors as long as the weather permits. If not, it will be moved inside Belmont Village in the Henrietta room. The event is free to the public.

'Party at Jay's'

Starting Thursday, Sweet Tea Shakespeare is holding a performance of "Party at Jay's" where the audience are the guests at Jay's party in the roaring 1920s.

The event is at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Sunday throughout the month of May on the 11th floor of the Systel Building,225 Green St., Fayetteville. The preshow starts at 6:45 p.m.

KidsPeace

KidsPeace North Carolina Foster Care and Community Programs hosts its second annual Art Gallery of Hope from 5-9 p.m. Sunday at Paddy's Irish Public House, 2606 Raeford Road, Fayetteville.

KidsPeace is an organization that helps with therapeutic foster care. The event is a black-tie affair that will feature an artwork auction to benefit the children in the organization's care.

Tickets are $20 for general admission and $40 for the VIP Happy Hour 5-6 p.m. Tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite.com.

Gardenmania

The Cape Fear Botanical Garden is located at 536 N. Eastern Blvd.

Cape Fear Botanical Garden, 536 North Eastern Blvd., Fayetteville, hosts Gardenmania from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday.

The event features gardening tips, vendors, workshops and children's activities, including hands-on planting.

It is free for garden members. Prices for non-garden members can go up to $15. To purchase tickets, visit Eventbrite.com.

Movie Night

The Fayetteville Police Department hosts an Operation Ceasefire Community Movie Night from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Friday at Westover Recreation Center, 267 Bonanza Drive.

The PG-rated movie "Sing 2" is free. It may be canceled to inclement weather. Keep an eye on the Police Department's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/Fayetteville.Police.

Planetarium Grand Reopening

The Fayetteville State University Planetarium, 1200 Murchison Road, Fayetteville, hosts a grand reopening at 7 p.m Sunday.

The reopening will be for the total lunar eclipse. The moon and moon missions are at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. The eclipse event outside starts at 9 p.m., with the partial eclipse starting at 10:30 p.m. and the totality begins at 11:30 p.m.

The 7 p.m. and 8 p.m. shows are sold out but no ticket purchases are required for the eclipse itself.

Fayetteville Pride Community Meeting

Fayetteville Pride hosts its May community meeting from 2:30-4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Cumberland County Headquarters Library, 300 Maiden Lane.

The free event will be a time for members of the community to connect not only with the organization but each other.

Drag Me to Dirtbag

Carolina Drag Brunch hosts a Drag Me To Dirtbag brunch event from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at Dirtbag Brewery and Taproom, 3435 Corporation Drive, Hope Mills.

The Brunch show is at 11 a.m., while the show-only entry starts at noon.

Tickets are $30 for the brunch and $15 for the show only. Tickets can be purchased at carolinadragbrunch.simpletix.com.

Lewis & Clark Circus

The Lewis & Clark Circus opens at 7 p.m. Saturday at Mendoza Park, 1774 Little River Road, Spring Lake.

The circus will be in town until Tuesday. Tickets range from $5 to $45 and can be purchased through the circus's website at https://lewisclarkcircus.com

Wedding Expo at Dirty Whiskey

Dirty Whiskey Craft Cocktail Bar hosts its first wedding expo from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday at 5431 Corporation Drive, Hope Mills.

The event features local wedding vendors and a raffle.
