Girls' basketball

CASTLE 71, BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 64: A 34-25 halftime lead disappeared in an avalanche of 3-pointers as Castle (8-7) put up 46 points in the second half to rally. The Knights hit 13 3s, including five in a 22-9 run in the third to go up 47-43. Just last week, Center Grove also hit five 3s in the third to blow that game open. Castle won the shootout in the fourth to hang on as Jordan Scott had 11 of her 24 points and Aleyna Quinn added 15 while hitting four from the arc. Caitlin Heim had a career best 27 points for South (6-5), pouring in 19 in the fourth. Carlie Pedersen added 14 points and Abbie Lucas 8. Panthers were 18-of-24 at the line in a game with 42 fouls.

BLOOMINGTON NORTH 56, NEW CASTLE 39: It was a win-win road trip for the Cougars (8-4), who visited the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame and then went on to trounce the host Trojans (0-13) after a big start. Mia Robbennolt and Ava Reitmeyer each had 13 points for North, while Ava Robbennolt added 11 and Mallory Barrow added eight.

BLOOMINGTON NORTH 55, FRANKLIN 41: Cougars bounce back from tough conference loss in rematch of last year's regional final.

SULLIVAN 62, EDGEWOOD 25: It was a rough WIC weekend for the Mustangs (1-7, 1-3), who get swallowed up in a 24-4 run to start the game by Sullivan (6-1, 4-0), which hands head coach Jeff Moore career win No. 499. It was 29-6 at halftime. Kam Ranard had six points and Jacob Boggs six rebounds for the Mustangs, who had their lowest point total since a 57-24 loss to Washington on Dec. 7, 2012.

Wrestling

BO HENRY CLASSIC: Host North finished eighth (75½) out of eight teams, with Tell City winning the team title (233½) over Jasper (204½) and Terre Haute North (194½). Jeremiah Casillas had the Cougars' top finish, taking second at 152 after getting pinned in the finals by No. 6 Tyce DuPont of Tell City. Kanye Roberts-Gray (3-1) was third at 126 with a 10-5 win and Cael Hickok was third at 160 with a 9-5 decision. Cas Crevello was fifth at 120, Luke Kerns was fifth at 182 and Chase May took sixth at 285.

COLUMBUS EAST INVITATIONAL: Edgewood takes fourth (146½) behind host Olympians (232), Terre Haute South (220½) and Homestead (191) in nine-team field. Mustangs record six top-four finishes, led by a first-place finish from Cash Turner (15-0) at 145 pounds. The senior won all three of his matches via technical fall in the second period (16-1, 16-0 and a 17-0 win over Columbus East's Nate Anderson in the final. John Orman was second at 113 (2-1), falling 4-0 to Monrovia's 16th ranked Isaac Ash in the final. Michael Neidigh was second at 152 (2-1, 2 pins), pinned by THS' Coy Bender for the title. Taking third were Landon Clement (3-1, 3 pins) at 132 and Braden Hubbell (3-1, 3 pins) at 195. Trenton Fender was fourth at 220. Complete results at: trackwrestling.com

JEFFERSONVILLE INVITATIONAL: Bloomington South finished second (193) in the 23-team field, behind Oldham County, Ky. (277) and ahead of the host Red Devils (170½). The Panthers had nine wrestlers finish in the top eight, including three champions and two runner-ups. At 106, No. 6 Cam Meier (4-0) won the title with a 15-0 tech fall over his foe from Rolla, Mo. At 152, No. 8 Evan Roudebush (4-0) was first with three pins and a 4-3 decision in the final over Reece McGill of Oldham. And at 170, top-ranked Delaney Ruhlman dominated again, with four first-period pins, the last of 50 seconds over Teagan Trotter of Jennings County. Taking second was Wyatt Cookey (3-1) at 126 falling in a 14-5 major to No. 13 Zane Schreck of Corydon Central and Drew Chandler (3-1) at 195, via pin. Other finishers: Brant Turner (4-1), third at 138; Wayne Harden, fourth at 113; Hunter Fender, fifth at 145 and Noah Webb, eighth at 160. Complete results at trackwestling.com

Boys' swimming

BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 120, JEFFERSONVILLE 59: Panthers pick up six individual wins and sweep relays. Lukas Paegle takes 50 free (22.47) and backstroke (55.50), while David Kovacs wins 100 free (47.41) and breaststroke (1:01.62). Michael Tierney wins diving (179.75) and Botund Kun wins 500 free (4:59.53). Relays go 1:40.76 (200MR), 1:35.11 (200FR) and 3:22.98 (400FR).

JASPER INVITATIONAL: North finished first in the eight-team meet, outscoring Evansville North, 652-611, for the top spot.

Girls' swimming

BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 120, JEFFERSONVILLE 64: Seven individual wins and a sweep of the relays for the Panthers. Harper Eakin opened with a win in the 200 free (2:00.14) and also took the 500 (5:21.31). Anna Asplund had wins in the 200 IM (2:19.89) and backstroke (1:02.52) and Lucy Tait took care of the 50 free (26.60) and 100 free (58.09). Alex Eakin won the breaststroke (1:12.85) and Carina Jacobson was first in diving (219.89). The Panther relays went 1:58.97 (200MR), 1:49.04 (200FR) and 3:54.80 (400FR).

JASPER INVITATIONAL: Bloomington North won the eight-team event, 540-509, over Evansville North.

Friday, Dec. 16

Boys' basketball

TERRE HAUTE NORTH 40, BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 32: For the third year in a row the Patriots (3-3, 1-0) won a rock-fight of a Conference Indiana game with the Panthers. South (3-3, 0-2) dropped the previous two meetings 35-34 (last season) and 33-22. THN led this one 17-11 at half and 28-20 after three, keeping South, which will miss starting point guard Andrew Baran for a long stretch due to a knee injury, at bay. The Panthers play host to Floyd Central on Saturday.

INDIAN CREEK 55, EDGEWOOD 46: Edgewood hung in during a defensive struggle in the first half before Indian Creek cranked up its offense in the second half to pull away in a WIC contest. The Mustangs (1-6, 1-2) were sluggish for three quarters, but led 9-4 after one and trailed by just one at the half, 17-16. But the Braves (4-2, 4-0), who made just 12 of 23 free throws, all in the second half, outscored Edgewood 18-9 in the third. Xzander Hammonds hit six 3s for 18 points, including four in the final period. Mialin White added 11 points, seven in the fourth, and four assists. Jacob Boggs had eight rebounds and Carl Norris seven. Adam Crough led IC with 18 points.

LIGHTHOUSE CHRISTIAN 60, WHITE RIVER VALLEY 55: Coda Snyder had 29 points as the Lions beat a SWIAC team for the first time in program history. Cam Craft and Will Wickstrom added 12 each for LCA (5-0), which jumped out to a 34-27 lead with a big 22-point second quarter. The lead was 12 after three before WRV (3-3) rallied but came up short.

INDIAN CREEK 62, EDGEWOOD 18: Class 3A No. 3 Indian Creek (12-0, 5-0) was in control from start to finish to remain undefeated and top the WIC. It was 33-11 by halftime and Edgewood failed to score in the fourth quarter to post its lowest point total since a 54-18 loss to Brownstown Central in December, 2016. IU recruit Faith Wiseman had 17 points and Lauren Foster 15 to lead the Braves. Madi Bland had 13 points to pace Edgewood (3-8, 3-4).

Girls' basketball

EASTERN GREENE 53, WHITE RIVER VALLEY 39: Keylee Hudson outscored the Wolverines by herself through the first three quarters, finishing with 31 points while launching the T-Birds to another SWIAC win. Hudson had 22 in the first half as Eastern (8-3, 3-1) went up 38-12 at the break, 45-21 after three and cruised home. Kenady Hudson added 10 points. Kylie Palmer had 16 for WRV (6-7, 2-2), which hit 18 of 22 free throws.

Girls' basketball

OWEN VALLEY 48, NORTH CENTRAL 37: Patriots snapped a five-game losing steak as Reagan Martin went 7-of-7 at the line en route to 19 points, 14 in the second half. Kearstin Ciresi added 10 points, Taylor York had nine and Madi Kay eight. OV took a 19-16 halftime lead and kept the Thunderbirds (7-4) at arms length from there, finishing 11-of-12 at the line.

MONROVIA 38, EDGEWOOD 36: Tough ending for Mustangs. Both teams win seven matches, four by pin, a technical fall and a decision. The difference was a forfeit win for the Bulldogs at 106 pounds, two points better than the major Edgewood picked up at 220.
