Boys' golf

NORTHVIEW INVITATIONAL: Edgewood and Northview each came in at 343 but the Knights won the second tiebreaker for third and the Mustangs settled for fourth after both teams had a fifth score of 95. Terre Haute North topped Greencastle 330-331 for the title. Edgewood's Luke Garrett fired a 76 to take second after scorching the front nine at Forest Park with a 33. Lane Notter of Northview won with a 75 and Noah Betts of Cloverdale also had a 76. Joe West and Calvin McDonald each had 87s for Edgewood while Carter Chaney had a 93 and Mitch Deckard a 95.

Baseball

BLOOMINGTON NORTH 6-5, LAWRENCE NORTH 3-2: The Cougars moved to 4-0 with a sweep in Indianapolis as LN started freshmen in both contests. North pitchers struck out 10 in the opener. The Cougar offensive came up with a three-run seventh to help close out the nightcap.

BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 9-10, VINCENNES LINCOLN 2-1: A pair of strong pitching efforts lifted the Panthers (5-1) to a home sweep. Game 1 saw Alex Shaevitz go four innings with Luke Thompson and Addison Bellini providing scoreless relief over the last three. Ben Ridner was 2-for-3 with three RBIs while Connor Osborne was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Brayden Blevins drove in two. Jake Arnett was 2-for-3. South broke is open early with a five-run second, adding three runs in the third for an 8-0 lead. In Game 2, Blevins was 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs and also pitching five strong innings. Osborne was also 2-for-4 and closed out the last two innings on the mound. Lucas Waldon also had two RBIs. The Alices helped out, committing six errors. South had a four-run second and piled on two more in the fifth and four in the sixth.

LINTON 9, EASTERN GREENE 3: T-Birds (2-2, 1-1) drop SWIAC game on the road as Linton jumped up 6-0 after two innings. Starter Peyton Lewis lasted just 1 1/3 innings to take the loss. He also had a double and an RBI. Luke McDonald homered for the Miners.

BLOOMINGTON SOUTH 8, SHAKAMAK 0: Marin Jacobs tossed a three-hit shutout with nine strikeouts and also slugged a homer and drove in three to lead the Panthers (2-1). South had 12 hits with Morgan Cockerill going 3-4 with a double and a triple; Keely Hubbard was 2-3 with a homer and three RBIs; Kinsey Clopton doubled twice; Akasha Burton had two hits and two steals; Jilliyn Gardner stole three bases.

TERRE HAUTE SOUTH BRAVES BASH: Edgewood went 1-2 on the day, starting off with a pair of 10-1 losses to 4A No. 14 Hamilton Southeastern and then No. 7 Mooresville before outlasting West Vigo, 19-10 in the crossover final.

Hamilton Southeastern 10, Edgewood 1 — The Royals jumped up 7-0 after three and cruised. Madi Bland and Piper Stephens were each 2-for-3 while Jayden Stephens had a solo homer for the only run. Ally Bland took the loss.

Mooresville 10, Edgewood 1 — Oddly enough, Mooresville scored the same amount of runs in the same exact innings to produce the same exact score. Edgewood also scored in only run in the sixth.

Edgewood 19, West Vigo 13 — Edgewood exploded for 15 runs in the third inning but had to play all seven as the Vikings got within five in the top of the fifth. Only two of West Vigo's runs were earned as Jaylen Robinson went the distance. Ella Sproul was 2-for-3 with five RBIs, while Piper Stephens was 3-for-6 with three runs scored. Madi Bland and Meleah Vest were each 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a homer. Alayna Flynn was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs scored, Courtney Hamilton homered and drove in three and Ally Bland was 2-for-5. Edgewood also drew seven walks and had three batters hit.

NORTHEAST DUBOIS 11, EASTERN GREENE 6: A pair of five-run innings and eight Eastern errors sank the T-Birds (0-4). Claira McGee and Taylor Konnermann each had two hits for Eastern. Only three of the runs given up by Addi Ramey were earned.

COLUMBUS NORTH INVITATIONAL: No. 14 Bloomington North grabbed second place (120½), powered by five wins and three runner-up finishes. No. 1 Center Grove had 141 points, No. 7 Floyd Central 113 and No. 10 Bull Dogs 93. JaQualon Roberts had a day, going a career best 49.93 to win the 400 and finished off the winning 1,600 relay (Winders, Clark, Shin) with a 48.95. North also won the 3,200 relay (Caelin D'Onofrio, Jack Holden, Pierce, Winders). Clark won the 1,600 and Max Wynalda was first in shot put, while Cody Mikulich was second in the discus. Caleb Winders also nearly matched his career best in the 800 while settling for second by .25. Jaylin Johnson was also second in the 100 (by .05) and third in the 200, both in a season bests. COLUMBUS NORTH INVITATIONAL: No. 11 Bloomington North won seven events and finished in the top three of all three relays to claim second place with 106 points. No. 8 Center Grove won with 168 2/3, Whiteland was third (97 1/3) and No. 13 Bull Dogs fourth (90). Hadley Lucas doubled up in the throws again with a 46-5 in shot put and a 156-9 in the discus and Dede Eberle doubled up in the 100 hurdles (16.08) and long jump (16-1¼) and anchored the 400 relay to a season best in a win (50.21). SILVER CREEK INVITATIONAL: Bloomington North won the title at the eight-team tournament, claiming three first place finishes. Flight winners were Brooke Bailey (No. 2 singles), Lucy Smith (3 singles) and Ellie Bruce and Maddie Brumley (2 doubles). At No. 1 singles Alex Shirley was runner-up to Riley Trinkle of Providence.  The #1 doubles team of Keira Murphy and Bella Winkler finished in third place, losing only to the eventual championship team from Oldenburg Academy.

Softball

EDGEWOOD 12, TERRE HAUTE NORTH 9: Madi Bland had a two homers and drove in five as Edgewood opened play in the Terre Haute South Braves Bash with a win. The Mustangs seemingly had the game in hand after a seven-run third led to a 10-2 lead after 4½ innings, but the Patriots (2-2) rallied for seven in the bottom half to make it a one-run game. Edgewood had 15 hits as Piper Stephens went 4-for-4, stole two bases and scored three runs while Ella Sproul was 2-for-3 with a triple, Meleah Vest had a solo homer and Ally Bland, who tripled, and Madelyn Hitchcox each had two RBIs. Jaylen Robinson got the win while Ally Bland had 3 2/3 innings of scoreless relief to pick up the save. The Mustangs will open play Saturday morning at 9 vs. Hamilton Southeastern and 11 vs. Mooresville.

CORYDON CENTRAL STARGAZER INVITE: Edgewood posted 13 top-three finishes to take the top spot in the 14-team meet, scoring 125 points with Corydon Central (104) second and Evansville North (93) third. Mustang wins came from Emma Edwards in the 400, Clara Crain in the 3,200 and Ella Hayden in the long jump while Sara Polito was second in both hurdles events to last year's 100 state champ, Rachel Mehringer of Forest Park (14.54, 47.34). Alyssa Frye had a homer and two RBIs for North (1-4), while Nat Burns went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs. Molly Klein took the loss as JC led 7-0 before North could dent the scoreboard.

Happy Gilmore added a 72 and Connor Byon a 78. Harrison Bomba and Noah Spicer each had 81s and Colton Watson an 82. The Stars carded three 76s and an 86.

Boys' track

LIGHTHOUSE CHRISTIAN, ORLEANS AT EASTERN GREENE: James Lewis swept the 100 (11.47) and 200 (23.19) and Roman Valentine won pole vault (11-0) to lead Eastern Greene. The T-Birds also swept the relays. LIGHTHOUSE CHRISTIAN, ORLEANS AT EASTERN GREENE: Madeline Esslinger won the 100 (13.28) and 200 (27.54) over EG's Clara Hawk to lead LCA, while Lizzie Billingsley won long jump (14-5¾). Eastern saw Lilyanna Blais (5:47) and Esther Crane (5:53) go 1-2 in the 1,600 and Crane (12:20) and Blais (12:32) go 1-2 in the 3,200. Zoie Ault took the 100 hurdles (17.44) and the pole vault (6-0). BROWN COUNTY 9, EASTERN GREENE 8: Eastern took a 7-0 lead after two innings but seven errors, including five in the last two innings, opened the door to a big BC rally. Addi Ramey took the loss but gave up just one earned run. Claira McGee slugged a three-run homer and had five RBIs to lead the T-Birds while Mallory Shelton scored three runs and stole two bases. Eastern also suffered 15 strikeouts.

SHELBYVILLE 14, BLOOMINGTON NORTH 5: Shelbyville exploded for nine runs in the top of the first inning and rolled. Nat Burns was 2-for-3 with her second homer of the year and three RBIs. Molly Klein and Ella Piercy had the other hits as North (1-3) was limited to four by Shelbyville's Hailey Pogue, who struck out 11. Kylee Edwards was 4-for-5 with two homers and four RBIs to lead the Bears (2-1). Only half of their runs were earned.

Amy McDonald picked up the pitching win, striking out four.

Kinsley Stanley led an 11-hit attack for North (1-2), going 3-for-3, while Nat Burns was 2-for-2 and Sydney Pitner stole two bases. Jessica Hovious was 2-for-3 with a double for Eastern (0-2). Addi Ramey took the loss, keeping it a 1-0 game until giving up a three-run sixth.
