We are still a long way from Election Day in November, but you can get involved in politics with Minnesota's caucus next week.
Although you can't cast your ballot yet, next Tuesday is caucus day, where residents can meet with others in their political parties, learn about candidates, choose delegates and suggest changes to party platforms.
This year the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party, the Legal Marijuana Now Party and the Grassroots-Legalize Cannabis Party opted to have remote caucuses in the pandemic. St. Cloud Republicans will meet in-person at Apollo High School.
Find more information about your caucus and locations based on your zip code and address at https://caucusfinder.sos.state.mn.us/.
Where are Minnesota political parties meeting?
The Republican Party of Minnesota is meeting at several places around the area including Apollo High School, Sauk Rapids-Rice High School, Avon Elementary, ROCORI High School, Sal's Bar and Grill in St. Joseph and Sartell Middle School.
The Minnesota DFL Party will be collecting non-attendance and resolution forms you can fill out and send to your local DFL Organizing Unit no later than Tuesday. You can find the forms and how to contact your local chair at dfl.org/caucus.
On Wednesday the Minnesota DFL Party announced for the first time they are expanding caucus participation to non-voting Minnesotans, including non-citizen immigrants and ex-felons who served their time but remain on parole or probation.
Previously, state law restricted caucus participation to eligible voters, excluding these Minnesotans from engaging in politics. The Minnesota DFL Party filed a lawsuit challenging the statute which passed in a state Court of Appeals decision earlier this month.
The Legal Marijuana Now Party's Zoom event is from 8-9 p.m. Tuesday and you can find the link on their website.
The Grassroots-Legalize Cannabis Party is meeting at Falcon Heights City Hall in person from 7-9 p.m. with registration starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday. Find the link to their 6 p.m. Zoom Virtual Caucus on their website.
