What's Happening: Cumberland County Fair kicks off; plus a live music schedule and more

The  Cumberland County Fair kicks off Friday at the Crown Complex for 10 days of food, rides, exhibits and fun.

Friday's festivities begin at 5 p.m. following a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

General admission is $8 for those 13 and older and $5 for kids ages 2-12. Unlimited ride bracelets are $30 and give holders access to more than two dozen carnival rides. There will also be a midway filled with games and the universally loved fair food.

Special discounts on admission are offered on certain days to students, military and first responders.

A variety of musical groups — from gospel to R&B to Southern and classic rock — are set to play the main stage throughout the event.

Among the exhibitions will be seasonal entries, clothing, arts & crafts, handicrafts, canned fruits and vegetables, jams and jellies, baked goods, floriculture, agriculture, horticulture, 4-H entries and livestock and poultry.

In addition to the standard fair festivities, Sept. 3 is the Cumberland County Fair Pageant. Titles will be presented in the following categories: birth to 11 months, 1-year-old, 2- year-old, 3-year-old, 4-year-old, 5- to 6-year-old, 7- to 9-year-old, 10- to 12-year-old, 13- to 15-year-old, 16- to 18-year-old, 19- to 24-year-old and a category for ages 25 and older. Celebrate Puerto Rican culture at Chinchorreo Fest 2022, 2-10 p.m. Saturday at Dirtbag Ales Brewery & Taproom, 5435 Corporation Drive, Hope Mills.

The event, hosted by Boricuas en North Carolina, includes food, music, activities and lessons on Puerto Rican culture.

Fabulous Brenda the Drag Queen, Tatianna Matthews and R2 Russo take the stage at 9 p.m. Doors open at 5 p.m. and seating, on a first-come, first-served basis, is at 7 p.m.
