What's happening with the Spring Lake DMV plate office?

The license plate agency reopens in the same location where it had closed in November.

The DMV license plate office in Spring Lake, which was at risk of shutting down for good, is closing on schedule at 5 p.m. Thursday, but not forever, officials said.

A new contract has been awarded to run the office at 316 N.C. 210 N., Suite C, DMV Communications manager Marty Homan said Monday.

Homan said that once the employees are trained, the DMV anticipates the office will reopen by February.

It was announced in June that the current contractor, Troy Townsend, was retiring. Townsend has run the location since 2017. The office handles vehicle registration, titling, plates and registration renewals

According to the DMV, until the Spring Lake location is back up and running, there are still three nearby locations motorists can visit Monday through Friday:

Fayetteville, Eutaw Village Shopping Center, 815 Elm St., from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Hope Mills, Hope Mills Shopping Plaza, 3333 N. Main St., Suite 140, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Raeford, 520 W. Donaldson Ave., from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
