The Massillon Museum’s History Discussion Group will meet from 10 a.m. to noon July 11. Moderator Chris Craft will lead a discussion about Massillon and Stark County restaurants. Note that the event is one week later than usual due to Independence Day.

Highlights

Do you remember Frieg’s, Padula’s, Rizzo’s Steak House, the Sugar Bowl, Bill’s Diner and the YWCA cafeteria? Did you ever eat at Topp’s Chalet, Mergus, Bali Hai, Kurt’s Inn or McDonaldsville Inn? What longtime eateries are still your favorites?

The History Discussion Group meets in the Fred F. Silk Community Room in the museum’s lower level. The museum is fully accessible. Attendance is free and open to everyone; new participants are always welcome. No reservations are necessary.

Liebermann’s pastries and coffee are available for a donation. Free parking is available on adjacent streets and nearby city lots. New handicap spaces are available on First Street SE.

Some guests attend to share their memories, while others come to learn about the town’s past. Many people attend every session – the first Tuesday of every month. Others attend only when the topic especially interests them. Some guests engage in the conversations, while others simply enjoy listening.

The Massillon Museum receives operating support from the citizens of Massillon, the Ohio Arts Council, and ArtsinStark, as well as marketing support from Visit Canton. The History Discussion Group is funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts.

Why visit?

Participants can stay for lunch at Greatness Cafe in the lobby, then visit 11  art and history galleries. A visit to the Massillon Museum is always free.
