What's new at the Mu? Student artwork, photography shows to open

Every year, the Massillon Museum’s Aultman Health Foundation Gallery bursts with color and imagination when student artwork from western Stark County schools is displayed. Celebration in Art will open at 2 p.m. Sunday with a reception for young artists from 23 public and parochial schools. The event is free and open to everyone; reservations are not necessary.

Highlights

Schools that have submitted nearly 240 two- and three-dimensional artworks are: Amherst Elementary, Edison Middle School, Fairless Elementary, Fairless High School, Fairless Middle School, Franklin Elementary, Genoa Elementary, Jackson High School, Jackson Memorial Middle School, Lake Cable Elementary, Lohr Elementary, Massillon Intermediate School and Junior High, Massillon Washington High School, Northwest High School, Perry High School, Pfeiffer Intermediate, St. Mary School, Sauder Elementary, Strausser Elementary, TC Knapp Elementary, Tuslaw Elementary, Tuslaw High School and Tuslaw Middle School.

A concurrent reception also is planned for photographers from Stark, Summit, Medina and Portage counties taking part in "The Art and History of Black Hair: Through the Eyes of the 21st Century African American Child" in the Museum’s Fred F. Silk Community Room Gallery, sponsored by Kent Area Chapter of The Links, Incorporated.

Celebration in Art will remain on view through March 6 during regular Museum hours of 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays; and 2 to 5 p.m. Sundays. A visit to MassMu is always free.
