Red Cross Mass Care volunteers

More than 1,500 Red Cross volunteers are on the ground helping those impacted by Hurricane Ian. Mass Care volunteers help by responding to local and national disaster responses, assisting with shelter-related needs (food distribution, cot set up, etc.), connecting people to recovery resources, and comforting disaster survivors. What is required to become a Mass Care volunteer? Volunteers must be 18 years or older, complete required online training, and respond locally to large-scale disasters. National deployment eligibility is based on required trainings completed and availability for at least 2 weeks (14 consecutive days). Learn more about becoming a part of the Mass Care team by visiting https://tinyurl.com/mass-care-volunteer. Reach out to a Volunteer Recruitment Specialist at redcrossrecruitsin@redcross.org or call/text 317-886-8508 with additional questions.

Batchelor Middle School Reality Store volunteers

The Reality Store is an event that helps students appreciate the "realities" of life and achieve a better understanding of personal finance. In the Reality Store, students pretend they are 28-year-olds starting their life and career. The students then visit stations (staffed by volunteers) to determine how to spend their salaries and make ends meet, budgeting for transportation, housing, clothes, food and so on. This hands-on exercise teaches the importance of budgeting and how grades can impact future earnings. There are two volunteer shifts available for this event: Shift 1: 8-11:25 a.m., and Shift 2: 11:45 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Background check required. Registration closes on Nov. 25, so respond today at https://tinyurl.com/reality-store-volunteer, or by emailing Mary Kiarie at mkiarie@chamberbloomington.org.
