What's next for former bank office in Pennsauken?

PENNSAUKEN – Change is brewing at a former bank office here.

The township’s zoning board has given initial approval for a proposal to put a Starbucks coffee shop in a building that once held Wilmington Savings Fund Bank.

The approval allows a drive-thru lane to operate at the proposed 2,000-square-foot coffee shop at Route 130 and Merchantville Avenue..

The site previously operated as Beneficial Savings Bank and Farmers & Mechanics Savings Bank.

A Manhattan-based firm, 2501 Merchantville LLC, acquired the vacant building earlier this year for $400,000, according to property records.

The developer is to return to seek additional approvals for its site plan and other elements of the project.

A Starbucks representative said the company is "continually evaluating our store portfolio," but provided no additional information about the Pennsauken site.
