The Humane Society of Washington County is marking the end of its Centennial Celebration by partnering with North Hagerstown High School for an art fundraiser, "Portraits for Paws," a student art auction and shelter adoption event. More than 50 North Hagerstown High School students will have their artwork on display and available for bidding. Students will offer children's face painting and pet caricature drawings in exchange for a donation to HSWC. Visitors can bring a printed photo of their pet or show a photo on their cell phone and receive a caricature drawing. Several students will also do live artwork by painting portraits of available shelter animals. Artwork not sold will remain on display at the shelter through Saturday, Nov. 12, and can be purchased for $20. HSWC also will offer $25 off all cat and dog adoption fees on Nov. 5. Adoption center hours that day are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; closed from noon to 1 p.m. for animal's nap time.

Antietam Unit 236 American Legion Auxiliary will hold its annual Veterans Day ceremony. The ceremony will include keynote speaker Antietam National Battlefield Park Ranger and Marine Corps veteran Jess Rowley, Michael Clopper Post 10 American Legion Honor Guard, Boonsboro High School chorus, saxophone soloist Mike Lushbaugh and Sharpsburg Elementary School fourth-grade students. Veterans in attendance will receive a small token of appreciation.
