What's Open, Closed In Clearwater On MLK Day

CLEARWATER, FL — City of Clearwater offices, libraries and recreation facilities will be closed on Monday, Jan. 18, in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The city's Solid Waste/Recycling Department will be working, and there will be no changes to the once-a-week garbage collection schedule.

For police or fire emergencies, dial 9-1-1 as usual.

For gas leaks, water line breaks or other non-police/fire emergencies, call the city's 24-hour emergency dispatch line at 727-462.6633.

There will be a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Virtual Celebration on Monday, Jan.18 beginning at 1 p.m. Residents can watch the event on the city's Facebook page.

The annual breakfast at the North Greenwood Recreation Center and march to Coachman Park have been canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Those wishing to can tune into the virtual celebration, which will include speaker U.S. Rep. Val Demings of the 10th District, city representatives and other speakers by watching the livestreamed program here.

To honor King, the city is inviting residents to create a yard sign with art, photos and quotes honoring King and email a photo of the sign to NAACP5096@gmail.com to be displayed in the MLK Day virtual celebration or share it at #IAMTHEDREAM2021.
