What's that restaurant coming to Liberty and Hrubetz Road in south Salem?
Location: 102 Hrubetz Road SE
Description: A new-to-the-area restaurant is coming to south Salem at the under-construction Laike Plaza along Liberty Road South.
A drive-thru Tony's Taco Shop is slated to open at the location, according to city records.
A staple in north Salem since 2012, the shop also has locations in Lebanon and Albany. The Laike Plaza spot will be its first south Salem restaurant.
Tony's Taco Shop offers a variety of tacos, burritos, chimichangas and nacho fries, including french fries supreme with refried beans and guacamole and an Oregon burrito with fried potatoes, pico de gallo, melted cheese and meat.
The restaurant announced on Facebook it would be opening in March.
The new location is part of a mixed-use, three-building development on Hrubetz Road dubbed Laike Plaza.
At a nearby building, 26 upscale apartments are nearing completion. That building will also have retail space on the first floor.
The property previously housed a strip mall featuring a barbershop, jewelry store and dog groomers. The 1.47-acre collection of land was sold in 2018, and four commercial buildings at the location were demolished.
Across the street, a new fitness studio is joining Sunnyslope Centre. Club Pilates is set to open its first Salem location between Eco Laundromat and Salem Geeks. The shopping center is also home to Love Love Teriyaki, Heroes Tap House and Roth's Fresh Markets.
