The former Macy’s in Stow is soon getting a new occupant.

Mayor John Pribonic confirmed on his Facebook page that the building in the Stow-Kent Shopping Center has “been filled” and “there will be an announcement shortly.”

Before Macy’s closed its Stow location in 2020, a department store had operated at the site for more than 50 years. The retail site opened in 1965 as O’Neil’s and changed its name to The May Company and later Kaufmann’s before the store’s acquisition by Macy’s.

Pribonic made the announcement in a post about the new HomeGoods store, which he shared is opening Aug. 25. HomeGoods will open in the former OfficeMax location next to Target in the Stow Community Center shopping plaza.

The former Macy's building and several surrounding retail parcels in the shopping center located off Kent Road are owned by Stow Kent Associates LLC, according to the Summit County Fiscal Office.
