What's on tap for fun things to do this weekend in Volusia-Flagler?

From wine walks to rock-star biopics and folk-music jams, there's an array of entertainment options this weekend in Volusia and Flagler counties.

Here are five ideas for cool things to do, even if the temperatures are hot:

Wine lovers unite

Expect wines and the people who love them to both be enthusiastically represented at the monthly Wine Walk on Flagler Avenue on Saturday in New Smyrna Beach.

The Wine Walk is a monthly progressive wine tasting that showcases the offerings of an array of restaurants and other businesses in the bustling Flagler Avenue business district from the North Causeway bridge to the ocean.

Tasting passports are $30, which includes 20 tasting tickets along with a keepsake wine glass, map and listing of host locations. During the event, host businesses offer both one and multi-ticket wines to sample the 100-plus featured selections for the month.

If you’d like to share your 20 tasting tickets with a friend, you can purchase an additional wine glass for $5 cash. Flagler Avenue will not be closed for this event, which takes place inside host locations along the thoroughfare.

Advance tickets may be purchased online at Eventbrite.com.

Day-of-event cash-only ticket sales will be available at three welcome stations: the West Welcome Tent at Flagler and North Peninsula avenues; Middle Welcome Porch at 401 Flagler Ave. and South Cooper Street; and East Welcome Tent at 401 Flagler Ave. and Atlantic Avenue.

Shark encounter fun

Although a real-life encounter doesn’t sound like much fun, this educational event on Saturday at the Ponce Inlet Historical Museum promises an entertaining twist on learning about sharks.

Sharks, such as this one caught in New Smyrna Beach, will be the focus of an educational event this weekend in Ponce Inlet.

Shark Exploration Day offers a tour of the museum as well as fun shark crafts and games that also provide insight into the local history and environment around us. The event is free, but those interested in attending are requested to RSVP to Jennifer at Jlagreca@ponce-inlet.org or call 386-761-2408 to ensure that space is still available.

Folk songs in Flagler County

Florida folk music reigns at the long-running Gamble Jam, a family-friendly picking and singing session that’s a monthly fixture on the second and fourth Saturdays of every month at the Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area in Flagler Beach.

The twice-monthly acoustic jam sessions unfold at one of the park’s riverfront pavilions to honor the memory of iconic Florida folksinger Gamble Rogers, who lost his life in 1991 trying to rescue a swimmer in rough surf along Flagler Beach.

The state park at 3100 S. Oceanshore Blvd. in Flagler Beach was renamed in his honor following his death.

Musicians of all skill levels are invited to the Saturday jam session, which runs from 2-5 p.m. Onlookers are welcome, too.

It’s free, with paid park admission of $5 per vehicle (up to eight people); $4 per single-occupant vehicle; $2 for pedestrians and bicyclists. Visit floridastateparks.org for more information.
