Wheaton Police Warn Of Utility Scam After Residential Burglary

WHEATON, IL – The Wheaton Police Department is reminding residents to be vigilant after someone burglarized a home after pretending to be a utility company employee.

According to police, the suspect visited a resident's home and told them they were from a utility company and needed to enter the home to check their water line for presence of COVID-19 contamination.

While the suspect talked to the resident, other suspects entered and burglarized the home, police said.

The City's Water Department reminds residents that the Water Division is not entering homes for this purpose and residents should ask to see credentials from anyone identifying themselves as being from a utility company.
