The Wheel of Time has made some cast announcements ahead of season two.

The Amazon Prime fantasy series is based on Robert Jordan’s best-selling fantasy novels, and stars Rosamund Pike, Daniel Henney, Zoë Robins, Madeleine Madden, Josha Stradowski and Marcus Rutherford, but the world is about to expand with a whole host of new names added.

Emily in Paris's Maja Simonsen will be playing Chiad, Vikings star Ragga Ragnars has been cast as Bain, Derry Girls' Jay Duffy will be playing Dain Bornhald, and Rima Te Wiata as Sheriam Bayanar in the upcoming season.

Previous season two castings include Killing Eve's Ayoola Smart, Hanna's Guy Roberts, The Last Kingdom's Arnas Fedaravicius, A Discovery of Witches's Gregg Chillingirian, as well as Peaky Blinders stars Ceara Coveney and Natasha O’Keeffe.

The new-look Mat Cauthon also makes his appearance, he was originally played by Barney Harris but was recast with The Witcher's Dónal Finn.

Showrunner Rafe Judkins previously opened up about the decision to switch actors, telling fans that the change won't be too jarring.

"It's always hard but we're really lucky that Barney is so great in the first season; I love him in the show," said Judkins. "And Dónal Finn, who is playing Mat in season two, is amazing. I have seen him up on set doing his scenes now and they're incredible and they fully capture the character."

The Wheel of Time follows Moiraine (Pike), who is a member of the incredibly powerful all-female organisation called the Aes Sedai, when she arrives in the small town of Two Rivers.

There, she embarks on a dangerous journey with five young men and women, one of whom is prophesied to be the Dragon Reborn, who will either save or destroy humanity.

The Wheel of Time is streaming on Prime Video.
