Where to get ashes on Ash Wednesday in Baton Rouge
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — Ash Wednesday is on Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2024.
The day signals the beginning of Lent, a period Roman Catholics participate in to prepare for Easter. This year, Ash Wednesday and Valentine’s Day are on the same day.
The day is celebrated by Catholics going to Mass and receiving ashes on their forehead in the shape of a cross. Catholic churches will hold multiple services to allow people to get their ashes.
St. George Catholic Church will hold services at 6:15 a.m., 8 a.m., noon and 6 p.m.

Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church (445 Marquette Avenue)
Our Lady of Mercy will have four services and ashes will be distributed at the end of each Mass. Mass times are 6:30 a.m., 8 a.m., noon and 6 p.m.
Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church (2250 Main Street)
Sacred Heart of Jesus will have two services on Wednesday at 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. The ash distribution will follow after Mass.
St. Agnes Catholic Church (749 East Boulevard)
St. Agnes will have three services on Ash Wednesday at 6 a.m., noon and 5:30 p.m.
St. Aloysius Catholic Church (2025 Stuart Avenue)
St. Aloysius will hold four services for Ash Wednesday at 6 a.m., 8 a.m., noon and 6 p.m. The 8 a.m. Mass will be livestreamed.
St. Gerard Majella Church (5354 Plank Road)
St. Gerard’s Ash Wednesday Mass services are scheduled for 9 a.m. and noon.
St. Jude the Apostle Catholic Church (9150 Highland Road)
St. Jude will have three services on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m., noon, and 6:30 a.m. Ashes will follow each Mass.
St. Patrick Catholic Church (12424 Brogdon Lane)
St. Patrick will hold three Ash Wednesday services at 8 a.m., noon and 6 p.m.
St. Thomas More Catholic Church (11441 Goodwood Boulevard)
