Find out where to celebrate Fourth of July this weekend in Northern Michigan

The warmer weather is finally here and, while the pace of life might seem busier, the Fourth of July weekend is coming up in just a few days.

From fireworks to parades and more, here is a list of Fourth of July events throughout Northern Michigan:

Alanson 

This village of Alanson will again be celebrating the Fourth of July with a parade through town starting at 11 a.m. Monday, July 4.

Boyne City 

Boyne City goes all out for the Fourth of July weekend each year. Here's a full list of scheduled events so far:

Saturday, July 2

  • 8 a.m.-noon: Boyne City Farmers Market in Veteran's Memorial Park

  • 11 a.m.-4 p.m.: Cornhole Tournament in Sunset Park

Sunday, July 3

  • 10 a.m.-5 p.m.: 47th Annual Waterside Art & Craft Fair with food trucks in Veteran's Memorial Park

  • 10 a.m.-6 p.m.: Bounce houses and water slide in Veteran's Memorial Park

  • Noon-1:30 p.m.: Patriotic boat parade around Lake Charlevoix

  • 1-3 p.m. — Boyne City all school class reunion in Veteran's Memorial Park Pavilion

Monday, July 4

  • 7-10 a.m.: Independence Day Breakfast at the FOE Eagles Hall

  • 7:30 a.m.: 46th Annual Independence Day Run; race starts and ends at Peninsula Park

  • 9 a.m.-5 p.m.:  Bounce houses and water slide in Veteran's Memorial Park

  • 9 a.m.-noon: Boyne Valley Garden Club pie sale in the Veteran's Memorial Park Pavilion

  • 9:30 a.m.: Pre-parade entertainment by Boyne Area Gymnastics on Lake Street

  • 9:30 a.m.: Pre-Parade Entertainment by Lake Side Elite on Water Street

  • 9:55 a.m.: National anthem performed by Asuka Barden on Lake Street

  • 10 a.m.: Grand Parade through downtown Boyne CIty

  • 10 a.m.-5 p.m.: 47th Annual Waterside Art & Craft Fair and food trucks, Veteran's Memorial Park

  • 10 a.m.-5 p.m.: U.S. Marine Corps. tent and activities in Sunset Park

  • ​11a.m.-1 p.m.: Boyne City Rotary "World Famous Chicken BBQ" in the Veteran's Memorial Park Pavilion

  • ​12:30 p.m: Kiwanis/Family Fair Kids Pie Eating Contest, Veteran's Memorial Park

  • 12:30-2:30 p.m: Old-fashioned children's games sponsored by Kiwanis Club of Boyne City, Veteran's Memorial Park

  • 1-7 p.m.: Live music in Veteran's Memorial Park

  • 2 p.m.: Boyne Area Chamber's 34th Annual Duck Race on the Boyne River

  • 2:30-3 p.m.: Commemorative raft race on the Boyne River

  • 10:30 p.m.: Fireworks over Lake Charlevoix​ (Rain date Monday, July 5)

Cheboygan

Cheboygan has a number of Fourth of July events planned Monday.

The day will start with a parade lineup 8:30-9:30 a.m. at the Cheboygan County Building before the parade kicks off at 10 a.m. The parade will go from the county building north on Main Street up to the Fraternal Order of Eagles building on North Main Street.

Fireworks will also be shot off from Cheboygan County Fairgrounds at dusk.

Harbor Springs 

Harbor Springs annually hosts a number of Fourth of July celebrations. Here's all the town has going on Monday:

  • 8 a.m.: Paul Revere 5K and 10-mile run

  • 8-11 a.m.: American Legion breakfast

  • 9 a.m.-4 p.m.: Art in the Park in Zorn Park

  • 1 p.m.: Fourth of July Parade (starts at City Hall on east end of Main Street, proceeds west, turns left at State Street, left at Bay Street and returns to end at City Hall)

  • 10:30 p.m.: Fireworks at dusk over the harbor

Horton Bay 

Horton Bay each year delivers a unique and funny twist on the traditional Fourth of July parade. This year's parade kicks off at 1 p.m. and will stroll through town. Just remember, it ain't over 'til the fat lady sings!

Indian River 

This year, Indian River will celebrate the national holiday with a parade starting at 11 a.m. Monday. The parade will line up at 10:30 a.m. on Buchfield Road before traveling north through town.

Indian River will also have its own fireworks display shot off from DeVoe Beach on Burt Lake at dusk on Saturday, July 2, with a rain date of Tuesday, July 5.

Johannesburg

The city of Johannesburg will have its own celebrations with a parade at 1 p.m., with fireworks following at dusk behind the Johannesburg School.

Mackinac Island 

Mackinac Island is hosting its own Fourth of July celebrations with its historic and iconic Fort Mackinac all decked out in patriotic finery with banners, flags and bunting.

The island will also host a number of games available starting at 1:30 p.m. with a special program beginning at 2 p.m. Following the game and special programming, the "fireworks" will begin with a 38-gun salute honoring the 1880s states of the union followed by the finale with a cannon salute.

The island will also have a firework display over the marina around dusk.

Mackinaw City 

Mackinaw City, too, has a number of Fourth of July events planned for Monday. A number of scheduled games on the Marina Lawn will be available 1-3 p.m. with the Straits Area Concert Band to perform at Conkling Heritage Park from 9 p.m. to just before the firework show at dusk.

Petoskey

The City of Petoskey always has a number of Fourth of July festivities and this year is no different.

The holiday this year will be celebrated on Monday with the annual Grandpa Shorter's Fourth of July parade at 6 p.m.

The Little Traverse Historical Society will also host an ice cream social following the parade from 7-9 p.m. coupled with live music from local bands starting at 7:30 p.m. at the waterfront. Fireworks will end the day at dusk.

Sault St. Marie 

Like many other Northern Michigan towns and communities, Sault St. Marie will be hosting a Fourth of July parade at 7 p.m. Monday. The parade will take place on Ashmun Street and Portage Avenue before the day ends with fireworks at the waterfront at dusk.
