Where to find your Christmas tree this year

With Thanksgiving over, tree farms across the Blue Water area have begun selling trees for the Christmas season.

Spruces, firs and pines are for sale, with most farms saying they are open on the weekends and a few featuring visits from Santa Claus.

Western Tree Farm

Westerns Tree Farm, a farm at 3375 French Line Road in Applegate that has been run by the Western family for three generations dating back to 1949, is open on weekends. They began selling trees Nov. 18 and will be selling on weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Westerns Tree Farm didn't provide prices for its trees, saying it would vary greatly based on the tree's size and type.

In addition to Christmas trees, the farm will be hosting Santa on Thanksgiving weekend and the first weekend of December, and will feature horse-drawn and tractor-drawn sleigh rides around the farm. A gift shop is also available on the farm.

Shea Tree Farm

Shea Tree Farm is open starting Black Friday at 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and during those same hours every Friday through Sunday until Christmas.

Located at 6214 Shea Road in Marine City, Shea's trees all sell for $80. The selection included Canadian, Fraser and Douglas firs, as well as bruce Spruces and white pines. Food and drinks are available at the farm, including apple cider and donuts.

Port Sanilac Tree Farm

Located at 5845 East Sanilac Road in Carsonville, Port Sanilac Tree Farm opened on Nov. 18 and will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends.

Prices at Port Sanilac Tree Farm range as low as $40 for its white and Scotch pine trees to as high as $75 for the taller Fraser firs. The shorter fir trees will sell for $65, while spruces go for $55. Buyers will have to cut down trees, but the farm's staff wrap it for no extra charge.

Centennial Pines Tree Farm

Mike Wendling's family has owned Centennial Pines Tree Farm for over a century, and has been selling trees since the 1960s. Every tree sells for $75, including a variety of fir, pine and spruce trees. Sales will begin on Black Friday and continue every weekend until Christmas.

Located at 2775 Bricker Road in Wales Township, the farm provides free bagging services, though Wendling did ask that customers not drive their own vehicles onto the property to reach the trees in the back. There will also be hay rides around the property.

Natural Farms

Justin May said his farm specializes in growing spruce trees, and that he had plenty of Norway and white spruces this year. Every tree is $50, while bagging costs an additional $5.

Natural Farms will be open starting Black Friday at 7355 Imlay City Road in Ruby from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on weekends.

Country Christmas Tree Farm & Gifts

Ed and Theresa Shephard sell trees starting at $45, though prices may go up for taller trees, including various spruces and firs. Sales began on Nov. 18 and will continue from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday until Christmas.

Country Christmas Tree farms, located at 8122 Bricker Road in Greenwood, also provides wreath-making classes. The Grinch is also scheduled to appear on Dec. 2 and Dec. 10.
