Where to find Cinco de Mayo deals, food and music in Montgomery

Tucked away between this week’s “May the Fourth be with you” Thursday and Saturday’s “Revenge of Sixth” is a decidedly non-Star Wars day of fun that outdates both by more than a century.

Friday is Cinco de Mayo, and the Montgomery area is ready for fun that’ll likely have little to do with the day’s origin — when the Mexican army defeated France in the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War on May 5, 1862.

But we’ll have beer, margaritas, tequila and other drink specials, plus good food and lots of music. So there’s that.

Here’s a look at some of Friday’s Cinco de Mayo happenings that have been announced:

Cinco de Mayo free t-shirts at Moe’s

  • Time: 11 a.m.-9 p.m.

  • Happening: Free Moe’s T-shirts to first 50 guests, plus 2 times rewards points

  • Location: Moe’s Southwest Grill, 2900-E. Zelda Road, Montgomery

Little Donkey Cinco de Mayo Bash

  • Time 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

  • Happening: Food and drink specials, including Tequila Mocklingbirds, Watermelon Margaritas and Sizzlin’ Steak Tacos.

Caporal specials

  • Time: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Cinco de Mayo at the Bluff

  • Time: Gates open 4 p.m., band starts 7 p.m.

  • Happening: Food and drink specials, party pinatas and music from the Park Band.

  • Location: Red Bluff Bar at the Silos, 355 Coosa St., Montgomery (Enter park through the Commerce Street tunnel, turn right and go up the hill to the bar.)

Cinco de Mayo at The Rex

  • Time: 6-9 p.m.

  • Happening: Scott Grant solo music

  • Location: The Rex, 3640 Edgewood Road, Millbrook

Cinco de Mayo at the Exchange

  • Time: 7:30 p.m.

  • Happening: Music from The Marvtones

  • Location: 201 Tallapoosa St., Montgomery

Cinco de Mayo at Range 231 N.

  • Time: 7:30 p.m.

  • Happening: Live music from Shackelford Lane, with DJ Banks, drink specials

  • Location: Range 231 N., 3250 Wetumpka Hwy., Montgomery.

Cinco de Mayo at Strict Tempo

  • Time: 7:30 p.m.

  • Location: Strict Tempo Ballroom, 436 Coliseum Blvd., Montgomery

  • Cost: $15 per person

Cinco de Mayo Spicy Karaoke & Dance

  • Time 8 p.m.-4 a.m.

  • Happening: Spicy Karaoke! Roll for a pepper, eat, sing and get ice cream. Followed by a dance party late into the night. This is for the adult crowd.
