Where you can get a COVID vaccine booster shot in Monroe County

In the last few weeks, COVID cases in Monroe County have skyrocketed, and with more holiday gatherings around the corner, the CDC and Monroe County Health Department officials are urging people to get vaccinated.

But for those who have been vaccinated for over six months, a booster shot is recommended for any adult who wants them.

While the CDC gave the green light to mix and match vaccines, it's up to the provider to determine what booster you'll end up receiving.

How to schedule an appointment for a vaccine booster shot

Demand for COVID boosters has increased because of the expanded eligibility.

People looking to get a COVID booster vaccine can go to national pharmacies like CVS, Walgreens, and Wegmans with appointments, or call your local pharmacy about the possibility of walk-in appointments.

But you might have better luck finding an appointment through the New York State or Monroe County clinics. At time of publication, there were county appointments for booster shots available through the end of December.

At time of publication, walk-in appointments are not available in Monroe County, but many New York State mass vaccination sites, such as the State Fair in Syracuse, accept walk-in appointments for all eligible individuals.

An exception is the state-run clinic the state is holding Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson Booster at the Rochester Educational Opportunity Center on 161 Chestnut Street, which is appointment only.

It's recommended you bring your CDC vaccine card that shows your previous vaccination dates.

As for Monroe County provided clinics, you can find appointments at https://healthcalls.monroecounty.gov/vac/form/boost.
