Dabo Swinney became the next college football coach to get a massive raise Thursday.
The Clemson football coach received a 10-year extension worth $11.5 million per year that runs through the 2031 season. Now, Swinney sits behind Alabama's Nick Saban and ahead of Georgia's Kirby Smart as the second-highest paid coach in college football.

Swinney will make $10.5 million in 2022 before his annual pay increases to $12.5 million in 2031. The contract also includes $1 million retention payments due March 1, 2023 and 2024.
Swinney's raise came the day after Ohio State coach Ryan Day's contract was finalized, boosting his annual salary to $9.5 million per year and extending him through the 2028 season.

Day is now tied with Michigan State head football coach Mel Tucker and LSU head coach Brian Kelly for the fifth most expensive contract in college football behind Saban, Swinney, Smart and reportedly USC head coach Lincoln Riley, who's contract is not public.

Day's contract includes a buyout clause that would require a team to pay Ohio State $5 million to hire him away from the Buckeyes before Feb. 1, 2023, decreasing by 500,000 each year until dropping to $3 million Feb. 1, 2025 and $1 million in 2026 and 2027. The buyout is $750,000 for the final year of Day's contract.
Day is 35-4 as Ohio State’s coach, including a 21-10 victory over No. 5 Notre Dame in Saturday’s season-opener.
Swinney has led Clemson to 10-win seasons for the past 11 years. During the past seven, the Tigers won two national championships and six straight ACC titles.
