Where to get fish, pierogis, mac & cheese and fun during Lenten fasting in the Erie region

Ash Wednesday starts the Christian season known as Lent, during which many faithful abstain from eating red meat on Fridays. Several churches and organizations around the Erie area host fish dinners on these Fridays as fundraisers and fellowship opportunities. These are the dinners we could confirm. Assumption Greek Orthodox Church

Fridays through April 7, 5-7 p.m. Choice of baked or fried fish; 4376 West Lake Road; $15 baked or fried cod, $12 vegan choice; dine-in or takeout; 814-838-8808

All Saints Parish

Fridays through March 31, 4:30 to 7 p.m., 11264 Route 97, Waterford; $15 adults, $5 children younger than 12. Baked or fried white fish, baked potato or French fries, coleslaw, applesauce, homemade desserts, drinks. Eat in or take out. Call 814-796-3023 after 4:30 p.m. on Fridays for take out.

Holy Trinity Catholic Church

Holy Cross Catholic Church

7100 West Ridge Road, Fairview, will offer Lenten fish dinners every Friday through March 31, 4:30 to 7 p.m. Choice of fish, shrimp or a combo dinner with homemade coleslaw, tartar sauce and cocktail sauce, potato salad, fresh baked rolls, beverages and desserts. $14 adults, $7 children. Macaroni and cheese, $5. Dine in or take out. 814-474-1605.

Edinboro Knights of Columbus

The Edinboro Knights of Columbus are offering drive-thru Lenten fish dinners on Fridays at Our Lady of the Lake Social Center, 128 Sunset Drive. Use the Sunset Drive entrance and follow guides. Meals include choice of baked or fried fish, baked potato, macaroni and cheese, green beans, coleslaw, dinner roll and cookie of the week. The price is $12 payable with cash or credit card. Dinners take place Fridays through March 31, 4:30 p.m. until sold out. There is no dinner on Good Friday. Seating is available. Also, there will be a free dinner for every 25th vehicle and one winner will receive a $50 Country Fair gas card.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel

1531 E. Grandview Blvd.; March 3, 17 and 31, 4-7 p.m.; fish and pierogi; sit-down and takeout; $15 for adults and $7 for children aged 7-12. 6 and younger free. Take-out available.; 814-825-7313.

St. Luke Catholic Church

421 E. 38th St.; Friday and March 3, 10 and 17, 5 to 7 p.m.; baked fish and pierogi and macaroni and cheese, fries, green beans, coleslaw or applesauce, more; captain's platter also includes shrimp, $17; shrimp basket, $10. hosted by Knights of Columbus. 1123 East Ave. will be holding two fish fries during Lent, taking place Feb. 24 and March 24, both running from 4:30 o 6:30 p.m. Take-out only dinners include fish, halushki, green beans, dinner roll and dessert for $12.
