Where’s the fish? A popular St. Clair County fish fry has a new home, plans to reopen soon

Some folks may be wondering about the fish stand at Swansea Improvement Association, aka Swansea Fish Stand, and asking, dude, where’s my fish?

So I stopped by there to see if I could get some info. Here’s what I can tell you so far.

Swansea Fish Stand was closed June 30 and July 7 for summer break, according to its Facebook page.

In addition to being closed for Christmas and New Year’s, this break usually happens annually around July 4, according to owner Tim Lillis.

However, the fish stand remains closed at 216 Service St. for the time being.

Lillis’ fish stand will soon reopen at a new location.

He’s looking to reopen Friday, July 21, at the KC Club & Event Center at 5420 Old Collinsville Road in O’Fallon.

The O’Fallon location was previously the site of Walton’s Kitchen & Fish Fry, which moved last year to the Catholic War Veterans Post 370 at 3535 Route 159 between Belleville and Smithton.

Originally set to reopen at the new site on July 14, Lillis said there were some setbacks regarding equipment. If the issues aren’t resolved by July 21, the date may get pushed back again.

Asked why he’s moving, Lillis said, “It was just time to go.”

Plus, the O’Fallon site has air conditioning. (Who can argue with that?)

Both Lillis and Geoff Schmidt from the Swansea Improvement Association said the parting is on good terms.

And fish won’t be absent from Swansea forever.

“Swansea Improvement Association is planning on reopening a fish stand in the very near future,” said Schmidt.

Notices currently posted at the association hall state that the fish stand is temporarily closed and is looking to reopen under new management.

Folks will be able to get their fish in Swansea again soon.
