NEW YORK CITY — As New Yorkers plan for a Thanksgiving meal like no other, 1.5 million of their fellow city dwellers are struggling to feed themselves and their families.
Before the coronavirus crisis began, an estimated 35 million people across the United States did not have enough food to eat. That number is projected to surpass 50 million in the pandemic, according to the nonprofit Feeding America.
Estimates suggest that New York's 15 Congressional District, which covers much of The Bronx, is seeing the nation's highest increase in the number of people living in food-insecure households.
In this time of urgent need, food pantries, soup kitchens, elected officials and other community members are stepping up to provide New Yorkers in need with Thanksgiving staples like turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce.
Patch has compiled a list of places to find Thanksgiving food ahead of the holiday.
