There are several options for High Desert residents looking to dispose of live and artificial Christmas trees.

The city of Victorville will offer disposal and recycling services, including the collecting of natural, flocked, and artificial trees to residents of single-family homes with curbside barrel service.

Residents without curbside pickup service can dispose of trees for free at the city’s recycling drop-off center at 15164 Anacapa Road.

There will also be curbside pickup for natural trees for residents of single-family homes with curbside barrel service.

Christmas tree disposal guidelines

  • Residents may also recycle natural, flocked, and non-flocked Christmas trees for free by placing them curbside on their regular trash and recycling collection day from Jan. 2 to 12.

  • All stands, plastic bags, and decorations must be removed.

  • Trees more than eight feet tall should be cut in half.

  • Natural trees may also be cut into smaller pieces to fit inside green organics recycling barrels.

  • After Jan. 12, residents of single-family homes with curbside barrel service may dispose of trees by scheduling a free bulky item pickup through Victorville Disposal at 760-245-8607.

Curbside pickup for artificial trees

Victorville residents of single-family homes with curbside barrel service, may dispose of artificial Christmas trees in trash barrels provided they are cut down or by scheduling a free bulky item pickup through Victorville Disposal.

Bulky item pickup for flocked and artificial trees can be made anytime.

Free drop-off disposal service

Victorville residents without curbside collection service, such as those who reside in apartments and mobile home parks, may dispose of natural, flocked, and artificial trees at the Victorville Recycling Drop-Off Center during January.

The Victorville Recycling Drop-Off Center is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday.

Residents can also recycle cardboard, wrapping paper, TVs, appliances, electronics, and mattresses/box springs free of charge at the drop-off location.

Barstow

Barstow residents can place natural and non-flocked trees at the curb on regular service days through Jan. 9, and Burrtec will take them for free.

Residents must first strip the tree down, removing lights, tinsel, decorations, stands, and nails. Trees over 6 feet high must be cut in half. Natural trees will be turned into mulch.

Fake or flocked trees go in the regular garbage container. If they don’t fit easily in a barrel, you might need a special bulky item pickup which has to be scheduled in advance by calling 760-255-5162.

Apple Valley

Trees can be placed at the curb by 6 a.m. on residents' regular collection days. Remove all ornaments, tinsel, plastic bags, stands, braces, wire, and nails. Trees over 8 feet high must be cut in half.

Burrtec will be collecting trees for two weeks following Christmas Day.

A second option is to bring trees to Civic Center Park at 14999 Dale Evans Parkway where a dumpster will be located nearby on Bass Hill Road until two weeks after Christmas Day.

Hesperia

Advance Disposal will pick up Christmas trees through Jan. 23. Remove all stands and decorations and place your tree curbside on your regular service day by 6 a.m. Cut trees in half if they are taller than six feet. Free Christmas tree mulch

Starting Jan. 23, Burrtec will offer free Christmas tree mulch to High Desert residents on a first come, first serve basis and while supplies last.

The mulch giveaway is offered from Jan. 23 through the end of the month. New stock is replenished daily.

Residents will need to load their mulch and bring their shovels/containers. Mulch is available for pick up from Victor Valley Compost at 17188 E. Abbey Lane in Victorville. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday only.
