Where to go in KC to cheer on Team USA, Current players in the FIFA Women’s World Cup

The 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup starts this week. The United States Women’s National Team, led by head coach and Park University graduate Vlato Andonovski, will take the pitch in Australia and New Zealand as they try for their third-straight World Cup.

If you’re looking for a place to watch the games, the KC Live! Block in the Power and Light District is hosting free watch parties with Sporting KC and the Kansas City Current. They did the same for the FIFA Men’s World Cup in 2022, and all World Cups since 2010.

Watch parties take place at these times:

  • USA v. Vietnam: 8 p.m. July 21

  • USA v. Netherlands: 8 p.m. July 26

Details for the USWNT’s group stage game against Portugal at 2 a.m. on Aug. 1, along with any knockout round watch parties, will be announced at a later date.

While admission is free, you will have to reserve a spot. You can get your tickets for both games here. Doors will open two hours before kickoff for each game.

No Current players are playing for the United States this year, but you’ll find a couple Kansas City Current players representing their countries during the tournament. Forward Debinha will be with Brazil’s national team, and newest signee Stine Ballisager Pedersen is defending for Denmark’s national team.

Injuries kept Current midfielder Sam Mewis from representing the United States and defender Hanna Glas from playing for Sweden this year.

In a statement, Sporting KC said it expects FOX to have cameras set up around the KC Live! Block to capture live fan reactions as a part of the network’s coverage.

ARE OTHER SITES IN KANSAS CITY HOSTING WATCH PARTIES?

If you’re a fan of one of the other 31 countries represented during the World Cup, No Other Pub, the soccer-themed bar right above the KC Live! Block, will be showing group stage matches. The bar is also hosting free giveaways during the games.

Check out the group stage schedule here.

Strange Days Brewing Co. in the River Market is also hosting watch parties for the USA’s first two games. They will have KC Koshary serving food for Friday and will stay open until the game ends for both nights.

If you can’t make it to the watch party, all games will air on FOX, FS1 and the FOX Sports App in English and on Telemundo, Universo and Peacock in Spanish.
