Where to find live Christmas trees in the Athens area

As Athens area residents prepare to deck the halls, many may be on the hunt for a live Christmas tree.

From farms to pre-cut lots, the Athens area has options that fit your budget, time frame and wants. Some places sell only Fraser firs, while others sell a variety of different types of trees. Prices range from $55 to $400 depending on the type of tree and size, which can reach a towering height of 12 feet.

Where to buy live Christmas trees in the Athens area

Jack's Creek Christmas Tree Farm and Nursery, 2291 Price Mill Rd., Bishop. The trees in their field to cut down yourself cost $55 for a 6-foot tree to $125 for a 10- to 12-foot tree. Tree sales begin Nov. 18. Jack's Creek is open Monday to Friday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m and on weekends from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

7 Gs Family Farm, 2377 Old Kings Bridge Rd., Nicholson. Ranging from 5 to 10.5 feet tall, 7 Gs' trees are $11 per foot. Tree sales begin Nov. 18. They're open Monday to Friday 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. and weekends from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Greenbriar Creek Tree Farm, 1540 Old Bishop Rd., Bishop. Tree sales begin Nov. 18. Open Monday to Thursday 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Friday to Sunday 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Cofer's Home and Garden Showplace, 1145 Mitchell Bridge Rd., Athens. Cofer's Christmas trees are priced by the foot at: 4 to 5 feet is $59; 6 to 7 feet is $89; 7 to 8 feet is $129; 8 to 9 feet is $199; and 10 to 11 feet is $349. Delivery is available in Clarke and Oconee counties for $65 if you bring in your tree mount. Open Monday to Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday noon to 5 p.m.

Lowe's: Christmas tree sales begin Nov.16. Hours are Monday to Saturday 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Check with Lowe's for prices and types of trees at 706-613-1100 or at https://www.lowes.com/search?searchTerm=christmas+trees. Athens area locations: 1851 Epps Bridge Rd., Athens; 3341 Lexington Rd., Athens; 1821 Eatonton Hwy. Madison, GA; 4022 Atlanta Hwy., Loganville.

The Home Depot: Home Depot sells Douglass and Fraser firs starting Nov. 17. Heights of trees range from under 5 feet to 10 to 12 feet tall. Open Monday to Saturday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. and on Sundays from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Curbside is available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. throughout the week. Athens area locations: 1740 Epps Bridge Rd. Athens. 230 Steven B Tanger Blvd., Commerce. 649 Carl Bethlehem Rd., Winder

Walmart: Offering Noble and Fraser firs ranging from $65 to $185 depending on height and type of tree. Miniature shrubs are also available from $28.74 to $49.72. Open Sunday to Saturday from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Athens area locations: 1911 Epps Bridge Pkwy., Athens. 4375 Lexington Rd., Athens. 440 Atlanta Hwy. N.W., Winder.  2050 W. Spring St., Monroe. 1681 Eatonton Rd., Madison.

The Fresh Market: 196 Alps Rd. Ste. 50, Athens. The Fresh Market will start selling live Christmas trees on Nov. 15 for $39.99. Open Sunday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Kroger: Kroger will sell live Christmas trees but does not have a clear schedule on when they'll be available as of Nov. 15. Open Sunday to Saturday 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. Athens area locations: 191 Alps Rd., Athens. 2301 College Station Rd. Athens. 700 Highway 29 N. Athens.  1720 Epps Bridge Pkwy. Athens. 1685 Old Pendergrass Rd. Jefferson.

Ace Hardware: Ace Hardware stores will sell live Christmas trees ranging from 4-10 feet starting Nov. 18 for some locations. Check store location for hours of operation. Athens area locations: 2041 Hog Mountain Rd., Watkinsville 6145 Highway 72 W. Colbert. 145 Coile Dr., Crawford. 186 W. Athens St., Winder.  535 General Daniel Ave. N., Danielsville. 208 Homer Rd., Commerce. 703 W. Spring St., Monroe.

Pop-up Christmas tree lots in Athens

4640 Atlanta Hwy., Bogart. This lot sells Fraser firs starting the week before Thanksgiving Day. For more information on Christmas Tree Sales and Firewood call 706-540-2281. Open Sunday to Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
