'Where Are They Now?' 'Home Town Takeover' checks in on Wetumpka
WETUMPKA — Ben and Erin Napier returned to Wetumpka recently to check in on how the city is progressing after the "Home Town Takeover" effort competed a dozen projects earlier this year.
The Napiers host the popular HGTV series "Home Town" where they renovate homes in their hometown of Laurel, Miss. The "Takeover" effort took on an entire town for renovations.
The event series showcased 12 major renovations all over Wetumpka, including restaurants, shops, historic homes, public spaces, a new farmers’ market—and an entire downtown street.
"The show really introduced us to the nation," said Mayor Jerry Willis. "And they did it in the right way. Everything was positive on the shows and they really showcased what makes Wetumpka great. We still have people visiting Wetumpka based on what they saw on the show.
"This is going to benefit Wetumpka for years and we are excited to see what they show on the new program."

The show's episodes are still generating excitement, said Brenda Varner, of Wetumpka.
"I meet folks just about every week who are visiting," she said. "I mean why else would somebody from Arizona come to Wetumpka? And I've met two people from Arizona."
