It’s been 21 years since the terrorists attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, left nearly 3,000 Americans dead. The tragic event is now etched into the collective memory of many Kansas Citians, and each year there are efforts in the city to memorialize those who lost their lives.

This year is no different. Many continue to mourn for their family members, friends and first responders who lost their lives due to the attacks. Of the thousands of people who lost their lives in New York City, Washington D.C. or Shanksville, Pennsylvania, six people had significant ties to Kansas City, KSHB reported.

Here’s a list of 9/11 ceremonies and events that you can attend this weekend, if you are interested in paying your respects or if you would like to be in community with others who are observing the anniversary.
