Where can I get my passport in the Sacramento area? Here are 5 options as US faces backlog

Passport demand is high, as travel season ramps up, and appointments to get an application in are on a slow churn.

There’s a passport application pileup due to increased demand and a shortage of staff at the U.S. State Department, CNBC reports.

As of March 24, processing time for passport applications was taking as many as 10 to 13 weeks, the department announced, while expedited applications were around seven to nine weeks.

U.S. postal offices in the Bay Area, including Chico and Redding, opened fairs and weekend appointment slots to give people an opportunity to apply for passports.

Sacramento post offices are not offering extra passport appointments at this time, a spokesperson for the USPS said. But there are still ways you can try to snag an appointment in the area.

USPS walk-ins

Most USPS locations in the Sacramento area do not have appointments for the next four weeks, as of May 25.

But some places have walk-in times, including:

  • Industrial West Sacramento, 3775 Industrial Blvd., West Sacramento - 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday-Saturday

  • Citrus Heights, 6330 Fountain Square Dr., Citrus Heights - 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday-Sunday

The Passport Place

Sacramento State offers passport services at its International Programs & Global Engagement Office by appointment only.

Sacramento County Public Law Library

The Sacramento County Public Law Library at 609 Ninth Street has passport services available by appointment.

UC Davis Passport Services

The University of California, Davis has passport appointments via its Business Center.

They have slots from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday to Friday and some weekends.

Yolo County Law Library

Yolo County Law Library at 204 Fourth Street in Woodland has passport appointments.

According to the scheduler, new slots are open daily. You can book online.
