Where are Rochesterians vacationing this February break? Here are the top travel destinations
Rochester area travelers are going abroad this February break, according to AAA.
Seven of the top eight travel destinations for area travelers over February break are outside the United State, according to AAA bookings for Western and Central New York.
The upcoming school break - known as Presidents Day break week in some districts, midwinter recess in others or simply as February break week - runs from Monday, Feb. 19 to Friday, Feb. 23. When including the surrounding weekends, students and staff will have a nine-day recess, from Saturday, Feb. 17 through Sunday, Feb. 25.
Top vacation spots for February break 2024
The list is based on AAA booking from Feb. 17 to 25 and are specific to travelers from Western and Central New York:
Caribbean cruises
Orlando
Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
Aruba
Jamaica
Sydney, Australia (cruise)
Madrid, Spain
Cancun, Mexico
No matter the holiday, Orlando typically secures the top travel destination, but this year Caribbean cruising took the number one spot. Cruises are popular, according to AA, because, travelers can experience an inclusive vacation with meals, entertainment, activities and multiple destinations all in one trip.
While many travelers are choosing international getaways, others opt to hit the road. Warm- weather spots including Florida and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina are the top requests for maps and road trip information from AAA Western and Central New York. Other road trippers opt to stay closer to home. Popular break week spots in the Empire state include ski resorts, Niagara Falls and New York City, according to AAA.
