Where can I get sandbags in Central Florida?

With Tropical Storm Ian potentially hitting Florida as a major hurricane next week, the rush is on to get sandbags to protect property from water seeping inside.

Where you get them largely depends on where you live as cities and counties require people to be residents to obtain the sandbags.

Here is a list of sandbag locations as of Saturday afternoon:

Orange County

Orange County officials announced sandbag distribution efforts at five locations. Orange County residents, who will need to show an ID upon arrival, will be allowed to fill up to 10 sandbags. Residents must provide their own shovels. Hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

- Downey Park, 10107 Flowers Ave, Orlando

- Bithlo Community Park, 18501 Washington Ave, Orlando

- West Orange Recreation, 309 SW Crown Point Rd, Winter Garden

- Meadow Woods Park, 1751 Rhode Island Woods Cir, Orlando

Osceola County

Osceola, Kissimmee and St. Cloud will open a distribution site at 1211 Shakerag Road, Kissimmee, near Osceola Heritage Park. Site hours are 8 a.m. - 6 p.m., Sunday and Monday, Sept. 25 and 26.

Seminole County

Empty bags and dirt will be available to all residents of Seminole County; residents should bring their own shovel and gloves and be prepared to fill and load the bags themselves. Staff is unable to provide assistance. Filled sandbags can weigh approximately 30 pounds, so it is recommended to bring a partner to assist.

Altamonte Springs

The City of Altamonte Springs will provide self-service sand & bags while supplies last starting Sunday, 8 a.m. - 7 p.m. at Eastmonte and Westmonte Parks. Shovels are not provided.

Volusia County

Volusia County will provide free sand and empty sandbags to residents from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, in the parking lot of the Volusia County Correctional Facility, 1354 Indian Lake Road, Daytona Beach.

DAYTONA BEACH

Sandbag supplies will be available for residents and business owners from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, in the parking lot near the southeast corner of Orange Avenue and Jean Street. Residents are asked to bring their own shovel. There is no charge for sandbags, and there is a 10-bag limit per vehicle.

DAYTONA BEACH SHORES

Sand and bag distribution will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Daytona Beach Shores City Hall, 2990 S. Atlantic Ave., and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, at the Shores Community Center, 3000 Bellemead Drive. The city will provide bags, sand and shovels. Residents should be prepared to fill the bags. There is a limit of 10 sandbags per household/business. Proof of residency is required.

DEBARY

Sand and bags will be distributed at DeBary City Hall, 16 Colomba Road, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, and Sunday, Sept. 25. There is a limit of 10 bags per household. Bags are not available for commercial businesses. Proof of residency is required. Residents should bring a shovel and be prepared to fill the bags.

DELTONA

The city will set up sandbag filling stations from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, and Sunday, Sept. 25, at Festival Park, 191 Howland Blvd. Residents must provide proof of residency and fill the bags themselves. Proof or residency is required.

EDGEWATER

The City of Edgewater has stocked three locations with sand piles, and they are accessible 24 hours a day. Residents should bring their own shovels and bags.

ORMOND BEACH

A self-serve sand pile and fillable sandbags is available at the Nova Community Center, 440 N. Nova Road, Ormond Beach from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 1 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday. Residents can receive up to 10 fillable bags. They should bring a shovel and be prepared to fill the bags and load them into their vehicles.

SOUTH DAYTONA

Sand and bags will be available from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting Saturday, Sept. 24, at Reed Canal Park, 2871 S. Nova Road. The city will provide bags, sand and shovels. Residents must provide proof of residency and will be allowed to fill 25 bags.
