Looking to get in the spooky spirit this Halloween season? Check out some of these Halloween-themed movie showings across metro Detroit this month.

Halloween films come to local theaters

Movie theaters across southeast Michigan are playing horror classics in the days leading up to Halloween. Local theaters like MJR Theatres and Emagine Entertainment feature a variety of Halloween-themed films in their current lineups.

At MJR, theaters are playing "Scream," "Hocus Pocus," "Malibu Horror Story," "Casper," "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and more.

Emagine is showing "Malibu Horror Story," "When Evil Lurks," "The Exorcist: Believer," "The Nun II," "Saw X" and more.

Library screening

The Garden City Public Library will host a film showing this week. The screening of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" will occur at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Film showcase

Horror Film Roulette, an annual film competition, will host its competition with two showings of over 20 short films this weekend. The competition will feature a matinee and evening showing, voting and awards ceremony, with the event starting at 3 p.m. Sunday and running into Sunday night.

The event will be at Emagine Theatres in Royal Oak Sunday. Admission is $25, with tickets for sale online. Attendees can also purchase a digital ticket to stream the event online.

University film fest

The University of Michigan Global Islamic Studies Center is featuring the return of its Muslim Horror Film Festival, running throughout October. The film festival includes a variety of virtual and in-person events screening global horror films with a Muslim perspective.
