‘Where is Wendy Williams?’ doc explores daytime host’s health, guardianship and more

It isn’t exactly clear what’s happened to Wendy Williams.

Her rise to fame as the no-nonsense radio host to daytime television diva abruptly ended while at the peak of her career due to the severity of her various issues.

For years, Williams was open about her health struggles, but then suddenly decided to stay out of the public eye.

She has recently reemerged on social media, posting a photo in an Instagram story to promote her highly anticipated podcast, The Wendy Williams Podcast.

In the photo posted on Friday, she’s seen sitting in a library, dressed in a long gray dress and blue jacket.

“Welcome everyone,” the caption reads over the photo.

The post comes around the same day Lifetime announced it’s releasing the documentary “Where is Wendy Williams?” She also serves as the executive producer of the documentary, which will air over two nights on the network.

The official trailer dropped on Friday.

Sitting in her famous purple chair, Williams looks directly into the camera and reveals she has “no money” and offers a stark warning.

“If it happens to me, it could happen to you,” she says straight into the camera.

Her loved ones also weigh in.

“My mom has done a great job making it seem like everything is OK always, but in reality, there’s something wrong going on,” her son Kevin Hunter Jr. says in the video.

In the trailer, Williams is asked if she’s seen a neurologist, to which she responds “to see if I’m crazy?” She then says “mmhmm.”

Another loved one explains that Williams was “put in front of a judge and given a guardian,” and then she was “taken away” from them.

She was placed into financial guardianship in 2022, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

“The guardian has not done a good job of protecting my mom,” her son said.

Williams’ sister tells a crewmember of the documentary that she doesn’t know exactly where Williams is residing. She also claimed that the “guardianship system is broken” and claimed the court said the family was unfit to care for her.

“What would you do? What should I do?” her sister tearfully asks.

The trailer addresses the guardianship along with Williams’ overall health and hints at issues with alcoholism.

A friend questions if Williams drank an entire bottle of alcohol in one day and another scene shows her enjoying cocktails with friends while a loved one claims she is surrounded by “yes people.”

“Anyone can look at her and tell this is not just alcohol, there’s something more going on,” a person is heard saying.

Her daytime talk show, “The Wendy Williams Show,” debuted in July 2008 and ran for 14 seasons. The final episode aired on June 17, 2022.

It was canceled due to “health issues,” it was announced at the time.

“Where is Wendy Williams?” will premiere Feb. 24 and 25 at 8 p.m. on Lifetime.
